Mary D. (Monahan) La Bay

Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and aunt

 Mary D. (Monahan) La Bay, 100, of Lowell died peacefully Monday morning, June 4 at Prescott House in North Andover.  She was the beloved wife of the late Ralph N. La Bay who died September 29, 1999.
 Born in Lowell, MA October 10, 1917, the daughter of the late Peter H. and the late Mary (Donohoe) Monahan, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School 1935.  An avid Girl Scout, she attained the rank of Eagle Scout.  Eager to pursue a career in teaching, she went on to graduate from Lowell Teachers' College in 1939.
 Before retiring, Mary was employed as an elementary school teacher in Tewksbury, MA.  She previously taught in Lowell and Newark, VT for over 30 years.
 Mary was a 100 year parishioner of St. Margaret Church in Lowell.
 Mary had many interests, the most important being with her family, especially her daughters, her grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She was a member of the UMass Lowell Alumnae Association and the Middlesex Women’s Club.
 Mary is survived by three daughters Judith N. Zanni of Tewksbury, MA, Michelle M. Gugliuzza and her husband Stanley Sliwowsky of Lawrence, MA and Ruthann Marston and her husband William of Andover, MA; three granddaughters Karen Dickinson and her husband Jason of Stoneham, MA, Bridget Zanni of Tewksbury, MA and Lauren Gugliuzza and her partner Thomas Phelps of Dover, NH; two grandsons Anthony Gugliuzza and his wife Kristen of Windham, ME and Stephen Zanni and his wife Joanna of Huntersville, NC; five great-grandchildren Anthony, Sophia, Stephen, Owen and Gianmarco; and several nieces and nephews.
 She was also the sister of the late John D. Monahan.
 The La Bay family wishes to recognize the skills and compassion of the entire Prescott House family and thank them for their care and love.
 Family and friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. on Friday followed by her Funeral Mass at the ST. MARGARET CHURCH in Lowell at 12 o’clock noon. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at
