Michael J. Makarewicz
Loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and uncle;
Michael J. Makarewicz, 93, of Lowell, died Monday, August 6th 2018 at his residence with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Mary Ann J. (Madore) Makarewicz who survives him and with whom he recently celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on June 12th of this year. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, June 16, 1925, a son of then late Emil and the late Dominica (Sarwicka) Makarewicz, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1943. Michael served honorably in the U. S. Army Air Corps in Germany in World War II and in the U. S. Army 2nd Armored Division in the Korean War. Before retiring, Michael was employed as a glazier with Demers Plate Glass in Lowell for many years. Previously, he worked as an airplane and jet engineer and mechanic for General Electric Company in Lynn. Among his many interests, he enjoyed gardening, airplanes, jigsaw puzzles, and spending time with his family. In addition to his wife Mary Ann, Michael is survived by two sons Mark A. Makarewicz of Lowell, and Steven R. Makarewicz and his wife Carma of Tyngsborough; two daughters Ann Marie E. Champagne of Salem, NH and Erika Connor of Seabrook, NH; six grandchildren Rhianna, Derek, and Craig Cohen, and Tania, Nyles, and Hannah Connor; two great-grandchildren Cameron Ross and Albert Cohen; a sister Florence Marchand of Pelham, NH; a brother Francis Makarewicz of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late Michael F. Makarewicz and brother of the late Adele Vieira, Edward, Walter, and Aloysius Makarewicz. Friends may call the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 5 to 8 P.M. Friday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be held Saturday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell at 10 A.M. Burial in the Holy Trinity Polish Cemetery.
