Mary Beth (O’Brien) Gettings

Loving mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend

Mary Beth (O’Brien) Gettings, 86, a lifelong resident Lowell, in both  the Pawtucketville and the Highlands section of the City, passed away peacefully at Wingate at Belvidere Saturday evening.

She was the beloved wife of the late Charles T. Gettings who died in December 2, 2001.

Born in Boston, Massachusetts, October 9, 1931, the daughter of the late Harold J. and the late Alice (Regan) O’Brien, she was a communicant of St. Rita’s Church since 1955.

Mary Beth attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1949.

She went on to attend the Boston School of Dental Nursing and worked as a Dental Assistant locally and for the Department of the Army at Fort Devens. In later years, she worked as an Industrial Specialist for the Defense Contract Management under the Defense Logistics Agency until retiring in 1996.

In addition, she was a member of League of Catholic Women, the D’Youville Senior Care Ladies Guild and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.

Mary Beth is survived by two daughters Lisa Noel and her husband Gerard of Lowell and Sharon Barry and her husband Brian of Andover; two sons Matthew J. Gettings of Pottstown, PA and Michael H. Gettings and his wife Celine of Lowell; seven grandchildren Scott Noel, Daniel Noel, Aimee Noel, Zachary Barry, Kaitlyn Barry, Joshua Gettings and Julia Gettings; three great grandchildren Isabella Vivenos, Lilliana Vivenos and Addison Noel; her brother-in-law Paul Gettings of Middleton.

She was also the mother of the late David C. Gettings.

Gettings --There will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Wednesday morning at St. Rita’s Church in Lowell at 10 o’clock. Committal prayers will be private. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
