Dorothy E. “Dot” (Dixon) Armstrong

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother and friend;

Dorothy E. ”Dot” (Dixon) Armstrong, 89, a member of a well-known Greater Lowell family, passed away peacefully Saturday evening September 15, 2018 at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family.

She was the loving wife of the late James R. “Ray” Armstrong, Sr., who died in 1991.  Together, they made their home and raised their family in the Highlands section of Lowell, MA.

Dot was born on January 8, 1929 a daughter of the late John W. and Catherine (Welch) Dixon.  She was educated in the Chelmsford public school system and was a graduate of Keith Hall.

Dot is lovingly remembered as a strong, independent and active woman who enjoyed hobbies such as bowling and golf.  She was a former member of both Vesper Country Club and Mt. Pleasant Golf Club where she developed lifelong friendships.

She was a communicant of St. Margaret Church in Lowell and was a member of the Blessed Virgin Sodality of her parish. She was a member of the Merrimack Valley Catholic Charities and the former St. John’s Hospital Ladies Guild.

Dot enjoyed summers at Seabrook Beach, cheering on Boston sports teams and reading. She was a competitive card player who looked forward to playing poker and 45’s with her friends at the Dracut and Lowell Senior Centers. She enjoyed day trips to Foxwoods Casino and never passed down the opportunity to enjoy a hot fudge sundae at Meadowlands Ice Cream.  Yet, nothing brought her more joy than spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was loved deeply and will be missed by many.

Dot is survived by two daughters Deborah A. Bukala and her husband John of Lowell and Linda Bodenrader of Dracut; a son James R. Armstrong, Jr. and his wife Susan of Lowell; four granddaughters Laurel Bakker and her husband Brian of Nashua, NH, Melissa Armstrong of Lowell, Kerryn Sousa and her husband Joshua of Lowell and Kaitlyn Bodenrader of Dracut; four grandsons William Bukala and his wife Elizabeth of North Chelmsford, James Armstrong III of Lowell, Michael Bodenrader of Warwick, RI and Matthew Bodenrader of Denver, CO; four great grandchildren; her sisters-in-law Claire Armstrong of Lowell and Evelyn Armstrong of North Chelmsford; several nieces, nephews, cousins and dear friends.

Dot was predeceased by her sister, Anna Grant and brothers, George and John Dixon.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Thursday morning at ST. MARGARET CHURCH at 10 o’clock, followed by her burial in St. Patrick Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com. Those wishing may make contributions in her memory to the Mt.
