Loving husband and father
George J. Skrekas, of Lowell, died unexpectedly on Wednesday, September 26th. He was the beloved husband of Avra (Kanavos) Skrekas who survives him. Born in Dracut, Massachusetts, April 15, 1932, the son of the late James and the late Panagiota (Aridas) Skrekas, he attended Dracut schools and was a graduate of Tilton Academy in Tilton, New Hampshire. George proudly served his country as a Staff Sergeant in the U.S. Air Force during the Korean Conflict. He was a member of the Transfiguration Greek Orthodox Church in Lowell where he also was a past president of the Transfiguration Men’s Guild. Before retiring, George was a licensed insurance agent and spent over 50 years in the industry working alongside his wife at their agency, Avra’s Insurance in Lowell. He was an accomplished athlete having played football, basketball and baseball. He was inducted into the Dracut High School Hall of Fame in 1984. In addition to his wife Avra, George is survived by his daughter Georgia D. Skrekas of Lowell. He was also father of the late Deborah Victoria Skrekas. George will be deeply missed. In accordance with his wishes, there will be no calling hours. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Service to be celebrated on Wednesday afternoon at the TRANSFIGURATION GREEK ORTHODOX CHURH in Lowell at 12 o’clock noon.
