Mary Louise Hubbell
Loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend;
On January 15, 2022, Mary Lou (Langan) Hubbell passed away at the age of 73. She was the beloved wife for 46 years of Richard Hubbell, who survives her.
Born on July 14, 1948, “Le Quatorze Juillet”, the daughter of the late Ada Louise (Runnacles) Langan and the late Gerald Langan, she grew up in Scranton, Pennsylvania, graduated from Marywood University and received an MBA from the University of Massachusetts Lowell.
She was a passionate professional who dedicated over 30 years to the University of Massachusetts Lowell as the Director of News and Publications, building an extensive network of beloved friends and close relationships which she cherished and valued. In addition to her work at the university, she was also very proud of her contributions and years of service as a board member at the Academy of Notre Dame in Tyngsboro, Massachusetts.
Talented and excelling in most anything she was interested in, Mary Lou was a competitive game player who thoroughly enjoyed the spark and excitement that comes with winning. She was a trusted advisor, listener, counselor, and advocate for any and all life issues. As a hostess, Mary Lou held an annual Christmas caroling party for family, neighbors and friends, enjoying the opportunity to share her enthusiasm for the holiday season with those whom she loved. The holidays are also when her generosity and passion for shopping shone, as she showered her family with thoughtful Christmas presents she had collected for months prior.
She loved to travel, meeting people and making friends everywhere she went. Her enthusiasm for life and her genuine interest in others drew people to her. Mary Lou spent summers reading on the shores of Long Beach Island in NJ and winters on the slopes of the White Mountains, skiing into her 70’s.
She dearly loved her husband, three children, six grandchildren, and poodle, Oliver. Mary Lou is the loving mother of Benjamin Hubbell and his wife Melissa Hubbell of Germantown, TN, Matthew Hubbell and his wife Melissa Hubbell of Acton, MA, and Alice (Hubbell) Shah and her husband Samir Shah of Middleton, MA; and the proud grandmother of Eli, Ada Elizabeth, Annamarie, Nolan, Langan and Charlie; sister of Catherine Langan of Springfield, PA, Michelle Rohulich of Kingston, NH and Pierrette Meehan of Lakeville, PA.
Mary Lou will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Memorial Visitation on Saturday morning January 22, 2022, at the O’DONNEL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 9:30 A.M. to 11: 15 followed by her Memorial Funeral Mass at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in LOWELL at 12:00 Noon. (All City and state required social distancing procedures will be observed including the wearing of masks upon entrance into the Funeral Home and the church).
