Teresa “Terry” Husson Kadir
A member of a well known Lowell family,
Teresa "Terry" Husson Kadir passed away of natural causes on July 14, 2011. A lifelong resident of the Greater Lowell area, Mrs. Kadir lived with her husband Joseph Kadir in Chelmsford, Mass. Possessed of a strong spirit and forthright manner, she was much loved by both family members and friends.
Born August 6, 1932 and raised in Lowell, Massachusetts, Terry grew up in the "Acre" section of Lowell. She was the daughter of Michael and Dewan (Cody) Husson, Lebanese immigrants who came to America to build better lives for themselves and their families. Proud of her Lebanese heritage, and grateful for the sacrifices of her parents, the family that Terry's parents built was an abiding source of pride and emotional strength for her. The youngest of six children, Terry had one sister, Nellie Husson Skaff, and four brothers, Jimmy, Paul, John and Camille, all of whom pre-decease her. The bond of love between Terry and her siblings was very strong. Even when departed, they were ever present in her thoughts, and were constant sources of fond recollection.
Terry attended the Lowell public schools, Lowell State Teacher's College and received her Masters in Education from Framingham State College . Her professional career was in public education. After teaching for several years in the Bedford school system, Mrs. Kadir became a guidance counselor at the Edith Nourse Roger’s school in Lowell. She retired from the field of education in 1995. Her retirement years were very happily spent with her husband Joe, often in travel to their favorite spots throughout New England as well as enjoying many family gatherings and events.
A parishioner at St. George's Antiochian Church in Lowell, the church was a major focal point of Terry Kadir's life. Her lifetime of worship at the church nurtured her faith, and provided her with a channel through which she could give that faith concrete expression. This expression of faith was evidenced in her deep involvement with St. George's many service activities, its celebrations of religious events, and its governing boards. St. George's Church in many respects was Terry’s second family. The church gave much to her and she gave much of herself to it in return. .
Terry was a devoted wife, godmother, aunt, great aunt, cousin, caring person and friend. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family !! She was an inspiration to us all. Terry is survived by her loving husband Joseph Kadir of 47 years, 3 nieces ,7 nephews, 8 great nieces and 5 great nephews. She is also survived by her cousins Fred Simon and Florence Bedee and a large extended family of second cousins in the Charlestown, West Virginia area.
