 Virginia L. (Kostka) Martin, R.N. 84, of Lowell, died Sunday evening July 24, 2011, at D’Youville Senior Care Center.
 Born in Lowell, June 29, 1927, the daughter of the late John and the late Stephanie (Miga) Kostka, she grew-up in the Christian Hill Section of the city, attended St. Michael’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School. She then graduated from the St. John’s Hospital School of Nursing in the Class of 1948.
 Mrs. Martin was a member of the St. John’s Nurses Alumnae, the Catholic Nurses Guild and the League of Catholic Women.
 Before retiring, she was a Registered Nurse at the Edith Nourse Rogers VA Hospital in Bedford, MA for many years. Previously, Mrs. Martin was a Charge Nurse in the Operating Rooms at St. John’ s Hospital for many years. In addition she also did Private Duty Nursing for patients.
 Her devotion to family was the focal point of her personal life and the ocean was her favorite destination especially when she could share the experience with her children and grandchildren. While never condescending, she was a consummate lady and an avid reader of biographies and fiction. She was especially intrigued by the "Camelot" era of the Kennedy family. 
 Mrs. Martin is survived by a daughter Elizabeth A. Skrekas and her husband Thomas of Hudson, NH; a son Hugh P. Martin of Nashua, NH; six grandchildren Alexandra Skrekas, Emily Martin, Alison Martin, Bennett Skrekas, Owen Skrekas and Anna Skrekas; two sisters Marcia (Kostka) Kelleher of Lowell, and Patricia A. Kostka of Dracut; a brother Alan S. Kostka of Dracut; and many nieces and nephews.
 She was also the mother of the late Peter C. Martin and sister-in-law of the late John F. Kelleher and sister of the late John Kostka and Stephen Kostka.
 
MARTIN – In Lowell, July 24, 2011, at D’Youville Senior Care. Virgina L. (Kostka) Martin R.N.  Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST, LOWELL from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday. Her funeral will take place from the funeral home Friday morning at 9 o’clock followed by a Funeral Mass at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH at 10 o’clock. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
