Mary Margaret (Sanville) Murphy, 87 years old, widow of the late James T. Murphy, who passed away in 2008, died at home on Monday August 1, 2011 after a long illness. Born in Haverhill, MA on October 19, 1923, the daughter of the late Albert M. Sanville and Catherine E. (Harrigan) Sanville, Mary graduated from Haverhill High School in 1941. Throughout her long life, she was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother who loved caring for her family. Prior to moving to Lowell, Mary worked for fifteen years as a bookkeeper at Haverhill Hardware and Plumbing Supply. She was the past prefect of the St Margaret Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality and served on its board for forty years. Surviving Mary are her children, James “Phil” Murphy, of Atkinson; N.H; Mary C. Murphy Porkola of Lowell; Anne C. Murphy of Lowell; and Rev. David J. Murphy, O.P. of Providence, RI; four grandchildren, Melissa A. Murphy, Sean T. Murphy, James L. Porkola and Bridgid A. Porkola; a sister, Mrs. Janet A. Duff of Groveland; three sisters in law; Claire Sanville, Lilian Murphy, and Mary T. Murphy; many nieces and nephews; and many dear friends, especially from the St. Margaret Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She was also the sister of the late Mr. John A. Sanville and Mr. Richard J. Sanville Mary and her family wish to acknowledge and thank all those who were involved with her care, especially the dedicated medical staffs at the Lahey Clinic and the Merrimack Valley Hospice.
MURPHY – In Lowell, MA, August 1, 2011, at her home, Mary Margaret (Sanville) Murphy, 87, of Lowell, beloved wife of the late James T. Murphy. Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated Friday morning at ST. MARGARET CHURCH at 11 o’clock. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
