David J. “Nip” Ahearn

 
a 20 year veteran of the U.S. Navy
 
     David J. “Nip” Ahearn, 59, of North Chelmsford, but formerly of Lowell and Old Lyme, CT and a member of a well known Greater Lowell family, died peacefully Tuesday morning at his home with his beloved wife Mary Margaret (Quinlan) Ahearn, by his side.
      Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, August 24, 1951, the son of the late Thomas P. and the late Dorothy J. (Lowney) Ahearn, he attended St. Margaret’s Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1969.
      A member of the U.S. Navy for over 20 years, he served as a Ensign First Class from 1975 until 1995 and was a veteran of Desert Storm. During his career he was awarded the Good Conduct Award, the National Defense medal and the Navy Achievement medal,
      Following his military service, David worked for the U.S. Postal Service in North Reading for several years.
      He was a member of the American Legion Post # 87 in Lowell.
      An avid lover of writing, reading and all things literature, david also had a great appreciation for music.
      Besides his wife, David is survived by three sisters Dorothy C. Ayer and her husband Donald, Ruthanne Fitton and her husband Robert both of Chelmsford and Claudia Jean “Deedee” Kovac of Greenville, PA; three brothers Thomas F. Ahearn and his wife Shirley of Indiantown, FL, William G. Ahearn and his wife Mary Frances of Chelmsford and Terrence P. Ahearn of Lowell; two godchildren Anna Rose Brewster and Sean Patrick Quinlan; his sisters and brothers in law Vera A. Gallagher and her husband Arthur P., Laurie E. Quinlan, Rosemary B. Brewster and her husband Bruce, and Katherine W. Breen all of Lowell, Kerry A. Deveau and her husband Jeffrey of Andover, Francis X. Quinlan, Jr. and his wife Dorothy of Lowell, Michael H.W. Quinlan and his wife Deborah of Bedford, NH and Patrick T. Quinlan of Lowell; many nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews and cousins.
     
AHEARN – In North Chelmsford, August 23, 2011, at home, David J. “Nip” Ahearn, beloved husband of Mary Margaret (Quinlan) Ahearn. Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 t o 8 P.M. Friday. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Saturday morning at ST. MARGARET CHURCH at 9:30 o’clock.
