Katherine L. “Kay” Kiernan

 
 Katherine L. “Kay” (Gannon) Kiernan, 76, of Lowell, died peacefully Monday, September 12th at Lowell General Hospital surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Kiernan who died July 2, 1989.
 Born in Lowell, September 14, 1934, the daughter of the late Daniel J. Gannon, Sr. and the late Katherine (Grady) Gannon, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School where she was a Girl Officer.
 Before retiring, Kay was employed as a Cafeteria Aide with the City of Lowell School System for many years.
      She was a member of the Westford American Legion Post 437 Women’s Auxiliary in Nabnassett for over 48 years.
      Kay had many interests but especially enjoyed the time she spent with her family.
      Katherine is survived by five daughters Deborah (Proulx) Hong and her husband Trung of Lowell, Joanne Owen of Lowell, Betsy Tino and her partner George Cross of Meriden, CT, Donna Newell of Lowell and Maribeth Ouellette of Meriden, CT; a son John M. “Jay” Kiernan and his wife Tammy of Lowell; twelve grandchildren John Newell III, Carl Proulx, Jr., Luke Hong, Mark Hong, Matthew Hong, Kerry Owen, Katelyn Tino, Daniel Tino, Courtney Kiernan, Amanda Kiernan, Michael Kiernan and Christian Ouellette; eight great-grandchildren; two sisters Joan Publicover of Lowell and Isabelle Gannon and her husband Paul Paris of Methuen, MA; two brothers Richard G. Gannon of Lowell and David L. Gannon of Lowell; six sisters-in-law Helen M. Boyajian, Kathryn Denault, Mary P. Williams, Mary Kiernan, Shirley Kiernan and Theresa Gannon; and many nieces and nephews.
      She was also grandmother of the late Angela Tino and sister of the late Daniel J. Gannon, Jr., the late John Barry Gannon and the late Sheila Bishop, and mother-in-law of the late Francis Tino.
      The Kiernan family wishes to express their sincere appreciation to the Lowell General Hospital Cancer Center, the MP3 Staff and D’Youville Senior Care for the extraordinary personal care and comfort that was given to their mother.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Friday morning at the PARISH OF ST. RITA, 158 Mammoth Rd. in Lowell at 9 o'clock. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
