  Arthur F. Diette, Jr., a lifelong resident of the City, and a well known retired Sergeant with the Lowell Police Department, died Monday morning at the Heritage Manor Nursing Center in Lowell.
  Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, September 27, 1935, the son of the late Arthur F. and the late Katherine (Moran) Diette, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1954. He went on to receive his Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University.
  Arthur began his lifelong dedication to public service at a very early age first as a volunteer fireman for the City of Lowell.
  Following high school, he was appointed an Auxiliary Police Officer for the City of Lowell in 1956, a Reserve Police officer in 1963 and a permanent Police Officer 1965.
  A highly decorated officer during his time with the Lowell Police, Arthur served as the Safety Officer, an Inspector, a Community Relations Officer and a Sergeant over a 35 year career in public safety. In 1976, he was named Policeman of the Year, by the Lowell Police Department.
  A longtime member of the National Guard, Arthur was very active with Veteran’s organizations throughout the state.
  He was the Founder and President of the General Patton Memorial Society of Massachusetts, a position he held for over 35 years.
  On April 26, 1991, Arthur was awarded Full Knighthood in the Order of Leopold the II, by his Majesty King Bowden of Belgium at ceremonies here in the United States for his lifelong dedication to all veterans in all countries.
  Sir Arthur is survived by wife Sara J. “Sally” Diette of Lowell; two sons Mark E. Diette of Lowell and Patrick A. Diette and his wife Angela of Westborough; two grandchildren Jacob P. Diette and Jessica K. Diette both of Westborough; a sister Jeanne Bond and her husband John of Lowell; and several nieces and nephews.
  He was also the brother of the late Thomas P. Diette.
 
DIETTE – In Lowell, October 31, 2011, at Heritage Manor, Arthur F. Diette, Jr. of Lowell, retired Lowell Police Sergeant, husband of Sara J. (Heffernan) Diette. Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday. His Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home Thursday morning at 8:30 o’clock followed by his Funeral Mass at ST. MARGARET CHURCH at 9:30 o’clock. Burial in the Westlawn II Cemetery.     Though Arthur was my mother's cousin, making him my first cousin once removed, we always called him "Uncle Arthur." His visits over the years were always colorful and accompanied with a huge smile... a smile that will always be remembered.

    Dear Sally , Joan, and your entire family, Kim and I would like to express our sympathies to you regarding the passing of Arthur. Although we never spent an abundance of time together, each visit we shared was one of incredible interest, as he always had something extraordinary to discuss, and as a young boy, it left me with a deep appreciation and respect for my "2nd cousin".
