
Brent J. Nelson
Former Lowell High star athlete Brent J. Nelson, 65, formerly of Lowell and Dedham, but most recently residing in Vero Beach, Florida, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011.
Born in Lowell, December 2, 1946, the son of the late Walter L. Nelson, Sr. and the late Bernice (Mills) Nelson, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1965 where he was an all state football player. An accomplished two sport star athlete, he was a member of the Lowell High School football team that played in the 1961 Gator Bowl under the legendary coach Ray Riddick. After high school, he went on to attend Lakemont Academy in Seneca, NY and then Memphis State University where he also played college football. Before retiring, Brent was a police officer with the MIT Police Department in Cambridge, MA. He was also a former president of the MIT Police Union.
In 1988, he was inducted into the Lowell High School Hall of Fame.
Among his many enjoyments, his true passion was playing golf with his friends and summering in Saco, Maine. Brent is survived his four children Kristen Derkrikorian and her husband Craig of Hudson, NH, Brent J. Nelson, Jr. of Waltham, MA, Parker Nelson and Brianna Nelson both of Dedham, MA; four grandchildren Damian Derkrikorian, Kennedy Derkrikorian, Brent J. Nelson, III and Brady R. Nelson; a sister Susan Kalil and her husband John of Lowell; two brothers Walter L. Nelson, Jr. and his wife Jean of Lowell and Michael I. Nelson and his wife Jan of Vero Beach, FL; several nieces and nephews and many cousins. He was also the brother of the late Gail Ann Nelson. Relatives and friends are invited to attended his Memorial Mass to be celebrated on Friday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell at 11 o’clock.
