
Chester E. Makarewicz

Chester E. Makarewicz, 93, of Lowell, died Sunday, January 22nd at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veteran’s Hospital in Bedford. He was the beloved husband of Camilla J. (Carnevale) Makarewicz with whom he would have celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary on April 18th of this year. Born in Lowell, February 20, 1918, the son of the late Emil and the late Dominica (Sarwicka) Makarewicz, he received his education in the St. Stanislaus and Butler schools in Lowell. A veteran of World War II, Mr. Makarewicz served in the U.S. Army and saw action in the Central Pacific, New Guinea and Luzon. He was awarded the Good Conduct Medal, the Victory Medal, the Asiatic Pacific Theater Campaign Ribbon and the Philippine Liberation Ribbon. Before retiring, he was employed as a Millwright with Raytheon Corporation in South Lowell for over 25 years. Among his many activities, Mr. Makarewicz enjoyed gardening, cultivating flowers, playing cribbage and golf, and good conversation with friends and family. He was also a long time communicant of St. Rita’s Church in Lowell. He was the founder and former member of the Raytheon Golf League and also a former member of the Lowell Lodge of Elks. Besides his wife Camilla, Mr. Makarewicz is survived by a son Dr. Carl R. Makarewicz of Lowell; a grandson Barrett Makarewicz; a granddaughter Jenna Makarewicz; a sister Florence Marchand of Lowell; two brothers Michael Makarewicz and his wife Maryanne and Francis Makarewicz all of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews. He was also father of the late David J. Makarewicz and brother of the late Edward Makarewicz, the late Walter Makarewicz, the late Adele Vieira and the late Aloysius Makarewicz.

His Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home Thursday morning at 10 o’clock followed by a Funeral Mass at the PARISH of ST. RITA CHURCH in Lowell at 11 o’clock. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
