 Mary Ellen (O’Connell) Mahoney, 61, of North Andover, died Sunday morning, April 14th at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of John J. Mahoney who survives her.
 Born in Lawrence, Massachusetts, June 8, 1951, the daughter of the late Maurice and the late Claire (Fox) O’Connell, she attended St. Rita Grammar School and was a graduate of St. Mary High School in Lawrence in the Class of 1969.
 Before retiring, Mary Ellen was employed as a Social Worker with the Department of Public Welfare (now known as the Department of Transitional Assistance) in Lawrence for over 27 years where she worked with many of the impoverished homeless and was an angel in disguise to those assigned to her care.
 Among her many enjoyments, Mary Ellen was proud of her Irish heritage and all the music, dance, culture and celebrations associated with it. She also loved traveling, especially her annual trips to Florida.
 She was an extraordinary caretaker for her loving sister-in-law Jane.
 In addition to her husband, Mary Ellen is survived by three step-daughters Mary Jo Santoro of Merrimack, NH, Karen Gurney and her husband Barry of Newport, NC and Allison Chasse of Lowell, MA; two step-sons David Mahoney and his wife Lisa of Newburyport, MA and Thomas Mahoney of Huntington Beach, CA; ten step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren; a brother John O’Connell and his wife Jane of Bradford, MA; three nephews Daniel O’Connell and his wife Audrey of Natick, MA, Christopher O’Connell and his wife Nicola of Hayden Heights, NJ and Jack O’Connell and his wife Allison of Amesbury, MA; her dear friends Jimmy and Mazie Chaisson of Methuen, MA; and several cousins, uncles and aunts including her special caregiver Aunt Louise.
 She was also step-mother of the late Kevin Mahoney.  
 
MAHONEY – In No. Andover, April 14, 2013, at home, Mary Ellen (O’Connell) Mahoney, 61, beloved wife of John J. Mahoney. Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday. Her Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home Thursday morning at 10 o’clock followed by a Funeral Mass at the PARISH of ST. RITA CHURCH in Lowell at 11o’clock. Burial in St. Patrick Cemetery.
