Eleanor M. Shanahan

Eleanor M. (Clayton) Shanahan, 85, formerly of the Highlands section of the city, died Monday, June 17th at her home. She was the beloved wife of the late George E. Shanahan who died January 2, 2004.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 4, 1928, the daughter of the late Wilfred G. and the late Mary (Horman) Clayton, she attended Dracut schools and was a graduate of Dracut High School in the Class of 1945.
Before retiring, Eleanor was employed as a Medical Secretary with Lowell Orthopedics Associates in Lowell for several years.
She was a parishioner of St. Margaret Church in Lowell and was a member of Catholic Daughters of America. 
Among her many activities, Mrs. Shanahan enjoyed shopping and reading and was an avid Boston sports fan. She loved spending quality time with her family, especially at Seabrook Beach in New Hampshire.
 Mrs. Shanahan is survived by three daughters Deborah Bannister and her husband Jeffrey of Atkinson, NH, Laurie Shanahan of Haverhill, MA and Leanne Shanahan of Westford, MA; three sons William J. Shanahan, Sr. and his wife Nancy of Lowell, MA, Edward G. Shanahan of Dracut, MA and Michael F. Shanahan, Sr. and his wife Sharon of Chelmsford, MA; twelve grandchildren William J. Shanahan, Jr. and his wife Felicity, Michael F. Shanahan, Jr., Jason M. Shanahan and his wife Christine, Erin L. Shanahan and her husband Randy Negron, Andrew A. Small and his wife Melissa, Tracy M. Bernier and her husband Michael, Adam E. Shanahan and his husband John Farrell, Kyle C. Shanahan, Katie Shanahan, Keith M.J. Shanahan, George C. Quirbach, III and Lafe W. Bannister; seven great-grandchildren Nathan, Alex, Kaelin, Taylor, Brianna, Khloe and Evan; a brother William T. Clayton and his wife Rita of Oregon; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday. Her funeral will take place from the funeral home Thursday morning at 8:30 o’clock followed by a Funeral Mass at ST. MARGARET CHURCH in Lowell at 9:30 o'clock.
