Helen Sycovaris

 
 Helen (Athanasopoulos) Sycovaris, 90, of Gilford, New Hampshire, formerly of Lowell, died Tuesday, July 23rd at Nashua Crossing in Nashua, N.H. She was the beloved wife of James Sycovaris with whom she celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary on January 1, 2013.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, February 8, 1923, the daughter of the late Vasilios and the late Anastasia (Argetes) Athanasopoulos, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School. As a retiree, she fulfilled a dream of her youth to attend college by enrolling in the University of Lowell (now known as U/Mass Lowell) and obtaining her bachelor’s degree.
 Before retiring, Helen was employed by the federal government at Hanscom Air Force Base in Bedford for many years in procurement where she wrote military contracts.   
 She enjoyed playing tennis at the Northmeadow Tennis Club in Tewksbury and going on weekly shopping trips with her sisters. She also loved traveling with her husband spending winters at their home in Santo Domingo and later in Fort Pierce, Florida.
 Helen was a member of the Hellenic Orthodox Church of the Holy Trinity and a member of the Laconia, NH Greek Orthodox Church. She was actively involved in the Daughters of Penelope where she served as president in 1969 and as District Governor in 1971.
 Helen spent the last twenty years of her life in Gilford, New Hampshire where she and her husband enjoyed boating and socializing with friends.
 In addition to her husband of 52 years, Helen is survived by a sister Martha Stafford of Fort Walton Beach, FL; and many nieces and nephews.
 She was also sister of the late Arthur Athanas, Charles Athanas, Alex Athanas, Stella Kouloheras and Rena Coravos.
 Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 7 P.M Thursday. Her Funeral will take place from the Funeral Home Friday morning at 10 o’clock followed by a Funeral Service at the HELLENIC ORTHODOX CHURCH OF THE HOLY TRINITY at 11 o’clock.
