Edward F. Shanahan

 
Member of well known Acre family,
 
 Edward F. Shanahan, 91, a lifelong resident of the Acre section of the City, died Sunday evening at Lowell General Hospital with his loving family by his side.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, September 2, 1921, the son of the late Edward F. and the late Mary F. (Fitzgerald) Shanahan, he attended St. Patrick’s Grammar school and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1939.
 A veteran of World War II, Ed proudly served in the U. S. Navy as a Plank Sailor and Radar man 3rd Class aboard the U.S.S. Neilds and was awarded the Asiatic and Pacific Theater Medal.
 Prior to his retirement, Ed worked for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts Department of Public Works for over 38 years.
 Ed was a member of the retired State, County and Municipal Employees Association.
 He was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick Church in Lowell.
\ Ed is survived by two sisters H. Ursula Shanahan of Lowell with whom he made his home and Muriel F. Haggerty of Lowell; two nieces Mary Jo Sudol and her husband Stephen of Dracut and Susan F. Jones and her husband John of East Aurora, NY; his beloved grandniece Molly B. Jones; and several dear cousins.
 He was the brother-in-law of the late Philip Haggerty.
 The members of the Shanahan family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to the staff of the D’Youville Senior Care Center for all the care, comfort and concern that was given to Ed during his time of need.
 Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 9:30 to 10:30 A.M. FRIDAY morning. His Funeral Mass will follow at ST. PATRICK CHURCH at 11 o’clock.
