Ellen I. Jones Ilg, 89, a longtime resident of the Highlands section of the City, died Friday evening at the Town and Country Nursing Home surrounded by her loving family.

She was the wife of the late Reynold A. Ilg, Sr. who died August 2, 1995.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, June 21, 1924, the daughter of the late George H. and the late Bridget (O’Neill) Jones, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1943, where she also served as a member of the Girl Officers.

Prior to her retirement, at age 80, Ellen was a customer service representative with Nextel in their Burlington offices.

She was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church.

Active in her community, Ellen was a Past President of the Girl Officer’s of Lowell High School Alumni Association as well as a Past President of the Lowell Traffic Supervisor’s organization.

A Girl Scout Leader in Lowell for many years, she also taught sewing at the Concord Carlisle Adult Education Center.

Ellen had many interests and talents as a seamstress, a great cook and a baker extraordinaire but was most happy when she was with her family.

She is survived by three daughters Ellen A. Gendreau and her husband Richard of Westford, Patricia C. Gabriel and her husband Brian of Dunbarton, NH and Mary I. Cantor and her husband Fredric of Brookline, MA; a son Reynold A. Ilg and his wife Linda of Gilford, NH; eight grandchildren Lori – Ane Ilg Michaud of Auburn, NH, Melissa Ilg Devore of North Andover, Matthew Gendreau of Roslindale, Laura Bouchard of Woburn, Ariel Gabriel of Malden, James Conant of Dracut, Ian Conant of Lunenburg and Michael Conant of Tyngsboro; five great grandchildren; a sister Ann J. Dwinell and her husband Al of Malden; and many nieces and nephews.

She was also the grandmother of the late Adam Conant, the sister of the late Thomas Jones, the late George Jones and the late Mary MacKillop.

Friends may call the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 7 P.M. Monday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Tuesday morning at ST.
