Loving Wife, Mother and Grandmother

 

Nancy (Kelley) Geary, "Younger than Spring time," died peacefully at her home on Saturday January 25, 2014, surrounded by her loving family.

 

She was the devoted wife of William C. Geary; they were married for 59 years, living happily in Lowell, Massachusetts where they raised their six children.

 

Nancy’s husband, children and grandchildren were the very core of her being.   She was also a true adventure-seeker who refused to acknowledge any barriers in her life. Nancy loved sports, especially sailing, swimming, tennis, golf, and anything else that involved an opportunity to enjoy time with family and friends.  Nancy was cherished by her children and grandchildren; she was a teacher and mentor; and a true friend. 

 

Nancy was born in Medford, MA, the daughter of the late Thomas and the late Mary (Kelly) Kelley. She graduated from Medford High School and Regis College where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature.

 

After college, Nancy worked for the National Security Agency (NSA) in Washington as a code interpreter and later taught at Wilmington High School. She resumed her career at Lowell Adult Education, where her kindness, intelligence and passion for the underdog helped her assist many newcomers to this country. She loved teaching at Adult Ed and her students adored her.

 

She was a dedicated communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.

 

Besides her husband, Nancy is survived by her children:   William C Geary III and his wife Kathleen (Cole) Geary of Andover , Catherine M Geary and Heinz D. Meyer, Stephen B Geary and his wife Ellen (McCabe) Geary, John C Geary and his wife Beth (Lynch) Geary, and Nancy Geary Funaro and her husband Francis Funaro,  all of Lowell.  Additionally, Nancy is survived by her 10 loving grandchildren; Caitlin  (Geary) Baggeroer and her husband Mark, Sean Geary, Jennifer Geary, Anna Geary-Meyer, Meghan Geary, Henry Funaro, Matthew Geary, Nora Funaro, Bridget Geary, and Jack Geary.

 

Nancy is also survived by her sisters,  Dorothy (Kelley) Hogan and her husband Daniel of Medford  and Eleanor (Kelley) Freeley and her husband Paul of Danvers, as well as her sisters-in-law Marie Geary of Nashua, NH, Marie (Geary) Donovan and her husband George of Rye, NH, Dorothea Kelley of Santa Barbara, Ca, Virginia Geary of Michigan. 

 

Nancy was the loving mother of the late Joseph P. Geary who died October 21, 1986.

 

She was also the sister of the late Neil Kelley, and the sister-in-law of the late Dick and Kathleen (Geary) Morris, Eugene Geary,and Paul and Ann Geary.  Nancy was much loved by her many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.   She will be especially missed by her friends at Long Meadow Golf Club where she loved to play golf and 45's. Nancy was grateful for the wonderful care she received from her doctor, David Pickul, M.D., and the nurses and staff at the Saints Dialysis Center in Lowell. 

 

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Wednesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Thursday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (Lower Church) at 10 o’clock.
