Anne M. “Nancy” Kiernan

Beloved wife of Lowell native;

 

Anne M. "Nancy" (Hulse) Kiernan, 88, of Dartmouth died Monday March 17,
2014 at St. Luke's Hospital in New Bedford. She was the wife of Joseph
R. Kiernan, a member of a widely known Lowell family.

Born and raised in Somerville, the daughter of the late Ernest and Mary
(Williamson) Hulse, she lived in New Bedford, Trumbull, CT, and Pepper
Pike, Ohio, before moving to Dartmouth 25 years ago.

Mrs. Kiernan attended Tufts Medical School and graduated from Forsyth
School for Dental Hygienists in Boston as a dental hygienist and
anesthetist. Prior to her marriage she worked in dental offices in
Boston.

She was a member and Past President of the Claire T. Carney Library
Associates at UMass Dartmouth and the Alcott Club. She was a member of
the Country Club of New Bedford. She was a member and volunteer at the
Rotch-Jones-Duff House and a docent at the New Bedford Whaling Museum.

She was a competitive bridge player and was an avid Boston Red Sox and
New England Patriots fan. She especially enjoyed spending time at the
beach.

She is survived by her husband Joseph; three sons, William R. Kiernan of
Newburyport, Joseph R. Kiernan, M.D. and his wife Llynne of Randolph,
VT, and John C. Kiernan and his wife Brenda Nishimura, D.D.S. of
Lexington; a sister, Margaret Hulse of Somerville; two sisters-in-law,
Sr. Mary of the Incarnation (Anna Kiernan) of New Mexico and Alice G.
Kiernan of Lowell; and five grandchildren; Joseph, Matthew, Jacqueline,
Erin, and James.

She was the sister of the late James, Harry, William, and Agnes Hulse.

Friends may call on FRIDAY at the O'DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4-7 P.M.. Her Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday morning at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL at 12 Noon.
