Linda C. Scannell, 67, a lifelong resident of the Belvidere section of the City, died Monday September 8, 2014, at Tufts New England Medical Center after a brief illness surrounded by her loving family.

Born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, February 24, 1947, the daughter of the late Dr. Robert J. and the late Rosamond R. (Robinson) Scannell, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Rogers Hall in the Class of 1965.

Linda went on to receive her Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from Simmons College in 1969. She was later awarded a Masters of Computer Science in 1976 from Boston University.

A software Engineer with the Mitre Corporation in Bedford, she recently retired after 44 years of service to the company. During her time at Mitre, Linda was also a multisystem engineer who worked on the Y2K, AWACS & Joint Stars Programs. 

She was a member of the Society for Women Engineers, the Friends of the Pollard Memorial Library, the Immaculate Conception Women’s Guild and was a past Treasurer and Board member of the former Rogers Hall in Lowell.

A master bridge player, Linda was a loyal Red Sox, Celtics and Patriots fan. However her greatest passion was time spent with her family, especially her nieces, nephews, grandniece and grandnephew.

Linda is survived by three sisters Glenna P. Scannell of Lowell, Cindy M. McNamee and her husband Jack of Andover and Claire T. Davis and her husband Charles; a brother Robert J. Scannell, Jr. and his wife Sheryl of Lowell; her two nieces Nancy R. McNamee and Kerryn M. McNamee both of Andover; her nephew Atty. Timothy R. Scannell and his wife Caitlin of Canton, CT; a grandniece Briar Rose Scannell and a grandnephew Kingstan P. Scannell both of Canton, CT; and many dear extended family and friends, including longtime childhood friends Gail & Jim Turi. 

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 7 P.M. Friday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Saturday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (Lowell Church) at 9:30 A.M.
