Richard G. Gannon, Sr.

Veteran of the Korean War;

Richard G. Gannon Sr., a member of a well known Lowell family, died after an extended illness on Friday September 12, 2014 in a Boston Rehabilitation facility.

He was the husband of the late Agnes M. "Aggie" (Stevenson) Gannon who died April 4, 1998.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 24, 1930, the son of the late Daniel J. and Katherine (Grady) Gannon, Sr. He attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1948.

A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a Staff Sergeant in the United States Air Force, serving in various locations.

During his working years, Richard was a pipefitter/plumber with the Edith Nourse Rogers V.A. Hospital in Bedford where he worked for over 25 years. Previously, he was a union pipefitter.

A communicant of St. Rita's Parish while living in Lowell, he moved to Sandwich in 1994 for his retirement until health reasons brought him back to Lowell.

He was a lifelong member of the American Legion.

Richard is survived by a daughter, Katherine M. Gannon of Lowell, and five sons, Richard G. Gannon Jr., and his wife Charlotte, Hugh S. Gannon and his wife Brenda both of Lowell, Edward J. Gannon and his wife Mary of Kearneysville, WV, Patrick D. Gannon of Medford and Thomas F. Gannon of Lowell; 11 grandchildren, 10 great-grandchildren; two sisters Joan Publicover of Lowell, Isabelle Gannon - Paris and her husband, Paul Paris, of Methuen; a brother David Gannon of Lowell, and four sisters-in-law, Theresa Gannon of Lowell, Mary Rice of Northborough, Sister Anne Stevenson, SND of Beverly and Patricia Robinson of Littleton; and many nieces and nephews.

He was also the brother of the late Daniel J. Gannon and John Barry Gannon, the late Katherine Kiernan and the late Sheila Bishop.

Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Monday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Tuesday morning at SHRINE OF ST. RITA’S CHURCH at 9 o’clock. Burial in the National Massachusetts Veteran’s Cemetery in Bourne.
