Margaret M. “Peggy” (Sullivan) Shannon

Loving wife, mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister;

Margaret M. “Peggy” (Sullivan) Shannon, 88, a member of a well known Lowell family, died peacefully at her home in the Belvidere section of the City surrounded by her loving family.

She was the beloved wife of James C. Shannon, Jr., who survives her, and with whom she would have celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary on November 18th of this year.

Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, October 9, 1926, the daughter of the late Joseph E. and the late Helen M. (Reynolds) Sullivan, she attended both the Immaculate Conception and Academy of Notre Dame grammar schools and then went on to graduate from the Academy of Notre Dame High School in 1944.

Peggy then received her Bachelor of Science Degree in Mathematics from Trinity College in Washington, D.C. with the Class of 1948.

A devout Catholic, she was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell and was a former member of the parish Women’s Guild.

In addition to her volunteer work at Lowell General Hospital, Peggy also was a member of the Academy of Notre Dame and the Trinity College Alumnae Associations.

She was a proud mother, grandmother, great grandmother and sister who treasured the time she spent with her family.

A bright and vibrant women, she will be deeply missed by those who had the pleasure of knowing her.

In addition to her husband, Peggy is survived by three daughters Helen S. Russo, C.P.A. and her husband Gregory of Cedar Knolls, NJ, Margaret M. Shannon, M.D. of Newport Beach, CA and Monica S. Brems, R.N. and her husband John of Mentor, Ohio; three sons James C. Shannon, III, C.P.A. and his wife Kathleen (Sullivan) of North Chelmsford, Joseph E. Shannon and his wife Joanne (Thibeault) of Dunstable and Arthur J. Shannon and his wife Rebecca (Hollas) of Grand Rapids, MI; 13 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; a dear sister Helen M. McNamee of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

She was also predeceased by her siblings Thomas, Mary, Joseph, James, William, Monica and Walter.

Friends may call at the MAHONEY FUNERAL HOME, 187 NESMITH ST. in Lowell from 3 to 7 P.M. Monday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Tuesday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH (Lower Church) at 11 o’clock.
