Sonya G. DaCunha

 Sonya G. (Heisinger) DaCunha, 88, of Lowell, died Monday, November 3rd at D’Youville Senior Care in Lowell with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Anthony J. DaCunha who died July 24, 2012.
  Born in Munich, Germany, June 11, 1926, the daughter of the late Anton Berto and the late Gisela Heisinger, she received her education in the Munich school system and still has an international family spanning two continents.
 Before retiring in 1997, Sonya was employed by the City of Lowell School Department as a Cafeteria Worker at the Daley Junior High School. She also worked as a mill worker at Synthetic Yarns in Lowell, MA. Prior to moving to the United States, she was a Hairdresser in Munich, Germany.
  Among her many activities, Sonya loved spending quality time with her family and enjoyed traveling, crafts, knitting and crocheting. She was a member of the Trinity Lutheran Church in Chelmsford. She was also an active member of the 796th Military Police Battalion Association.
  Sonya is survived by three daughters Manuela S. Perin and her husband John of Billerica, MA, Yvonne L. Wecker and her husband Albert of Jacksonville, FL and Angela F. Piscitelli of Lowell, MA; a son Eric D. DaCunha and his wife Bethann (Bergeron) of Londonderry, NH; eleven grandchildren Tracy Bertini and her husband Joseph of Cummings, GA, Sherry Buckland and her husband Stephen of Billerica, MA, John R. Perin, III and his wife Ann Marie of Somersworth, NH, Christopher M. DaCunha, II and his wife Michelle of Tucson, AZ, Anthony J. DaCunha, III and his wife Melanie Demers of Manchester, NH, Nicole Watson and her husband James of Clover, SC and Natasha R. DaCunha of Chelmsford, MA, Sonya L. DaCunha of Henderson, NV, Joseph A. Piscitelli of Lowell, MA and Wyatt D. DaCunha and Olivia N. DaCunha both of Londonderry, NH; sixteen great-grandchildren; a sister Helga Bechteler and her husband Josef of Munich, Germany; one brother Werner Berto and his wife Regina of Munich, Germany; six nieces Kathleen (Barry) Mansur and Mary Barry of Lowell, MA, Gabrielle Kiermeier and her husband Franz of Erding, Germany, Sandra Pahl and her husband Norbert of Nurnberg, Germany and Nadja Berto of Peissenberg, Germany and Sonja Berto of Huglfing, Germany; four nephews Arthur Barry of Lowell, MA, Patrick Barry and his wife Joanne of Atlanta,GA and Ingo Berto and his wife Tina of Schongau, Germany and Jan Berto of Weilheim, Germany.
  She was also mother of the late Christopher M. DaCunha who died June 25, 2012 and the late Anthony J. DaCunha, Jr. who died October 25, 1974, sister of the late Dietmar Berto who died October 20, 2012 and niece and goddaughter of the late Ludwigna (Heisinger) Hoffman who died in 2003.
  Her family would like to thank the wonderful staff at D’Youville Senior Care for their extraordinary love and care of Sonya.
  Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Service Monday morning at the TRINITY LUTHERAN CHURCH in CHELMSFORD at 10 o’clock. Committal Services to follow at the Edson Cemetery in Lowell.
