M. Claire Doherty


 M. Claire Doherty, 89, of Newton, NH, formerly of Nashua and Lowell, died Sunday, November 23rd at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston, surrounded by family. She was the beloved wife of 57 years to the late William G. Doherty, who died November 12, 2005.
 Born in Boston, Massachusetts, June 22, 1925, the daughter of the late Wilfred G. and the late Annette (Alix) Chaput, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Girls High School in the Class of 1941. She then went on to attend Lowell State Teacher’s College.
 While residing in Lowell, Claire was a communicant of St. Margaret Church.
 Claire was a founder of Children’s House Montessori School and served as Director and Teacher from 1966 at both locations in Lowell and Chelmsford, before retiring in 1995.
 Among her many activities, she was a former member of Circle Jean Mance in Lowell and enjoyed traveling, gardening, cooking and entertaining, knitting, painting, ceramics and photography. She was also a former Girl Scout Leader in Lowell for many years.
 Claire is survived by three daughters Dr. Ann Doherty LaBelle and her husband Robert P. of Newton, NH, formally of Vienna, VA, Ellen Bettencourt and her husband George of Newton, NH and Dr. Jean M. Doherty-Greenberg and her husband Dr. David Greenberg of Chicago, IL; three grandchildren Katherine A. LaBelle of Washington, D.C., Dr. Alexandra J. Greenberg of Rochester, MN and Daniel J. Greenberg of Minneapolis, MN; a brother Wilfred Chaput and his wife Rita of Bradford, MA and their children, Edward, Michael and John Chaput, Paula Sherlock, and Maryann Hebb.
 She was also sister of the late Alice Geoffroy of East Templeton, Massachusetts
 Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 3:30 to 7:30 P.M. Tuesday, November 25th. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass on Wednesday morning at ST. MARGARET CHURCH in Lowell at 9:30 A.M. Please meet at church. Committal Services will be held privately.
