Thomas F. Sheehy

Retired Lieutenant, Lowell Fire Department, 84

Thomas F. Sheehy, 84, of Tyngsboro, MA, formerly of Lowell, passed away peacefully, Saturday, January 31st at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Patricia A. (Wojcik) Sheehy with whom he celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on June 20, 2014.
Tom was born in Lowell on December 5, 1930, the fifth of eight children to the late Joseph A. and the late Mary A. (McLarnon) Sheehy. During his formative years, Tom grew up in his beloved Acre neighborhood where he and his family were devoted parishioners of St. Patrick Church. He was a graduate of St. Patrick’s Boy’s School and Lowell High School.
A veteran of the Korean Conflict, Tom served admirably in the United States Navy on the Aircraft Carrier USS Cabot (CVL 28) terminating his tour of service with an Honorable Discharge.
Following in his father’s footsteps, Tom proudly served his community as a member of the Lowell Fire Department, retiring as a Lieutenant after thirty-five years. After retiring from the LFD, he went on to a second career as a Letter Carrier for the United States Postal Service, this time serving his second community of Tyngsboro, MA.
Being a strong believer and faithful servant of the Catholic Church and all their teachings, Tom was a proud and lifelong member of the Catholic fraternal organization, the Knights of Columbus, attaining his 4th degree several years before his passing. He was also a longtime member of the Club Lafayette and shared many laughs there with a great number of friends and acquaintances. He often fondly recalled how he was the first person of Irish heritage to be admitted to the Club Lafayette.
In addition to his wife Patricia, Tom is survived by four children Paddy Sheehy and his wife Dr. Janice Barnhart of Barnstead, NH, Michael J. Sheehy of Lowell, MA, Terrence F. Sheehy, Esq. and his wife Lisa Sheehy, ESQ. of Encinitas, CA and Maura P. (Sheehy) Costello and her husband Wayne R. So sorry for your loss. Growing up next to the SHEEHYS will always have a place in my heart.... Pat your boys were like my lil brothers and were loved to death by my Mum... I remember Tom was always busy but always had time to stop and ask me how I was and to show me the latest development in the garage....LOL. Eventually when he didn't show me I'd ask him myself... Tom how's the garage comin along??? Always got him to laugh and then he'd go find you and make me tell you what I just said and he'd laugh all over again... And the Woodpaned truck and the pots and pans my Mum would bang when he had a hang over....and Uncle Toms cabin and how generous he was to let us use it....The memories were all good
