Ronald G. Silver
Veteran WW II, U.S. Navy;
BOYNTON BEACH, FL – Ronald George Silver, age 88, formerly of Lowell, MA and a resident of Boynton Beach, FL for the past 18 years, died peacefully at Bethesda Hospital on Friday, January 30, 2015.
He was the beloved husband for 64 years of the late Anastasia (Barrows) Silver, who died April 22, 2014.
Born on August 9, 1926 in Quincy, Massachusetts, the son of the late Nathan T. and the late Emily (White) Silver, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate from Lowell Trade High School (nka Greater Lowell Regional Vocational High School) in 1943.
Ron enlisted in the United States Navy and served in active duty during World War II on the USS Oyster Bay, a US Navy motor torpedo tender in commission from 1943 to 1946. He received an Honorable Discharge on June 5, 1946 as an Electrician’s Mate 3rd Class.
For over 43 years, from 1948-1991, he worked at New England Power Service Co. (nka National Grid) based in Westborough, MA and retired as a Supervisor for the Maintenance & Construction Dept.
A member of the IBEW Local 2321 serving Energy/Utility workers in the North Shore and Merrimack Valley in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, Ron also served on the Board of Directors as President at Seagate of Gulfstream, Boynton Beach, FL where he resided during his retirement.
He is survived by his three children, Roberta and her husband William Dinneen of Groton, MA, a daughter, Ronniann Silver of Overland Park, KS, and a son Jonathan and his wife Rebecca Silver of New London, NH. He is also survived by four grandchildren, Geoffrey Dinneen of London, England, Nathan and Eleanor Silver of New London, NH and Hannah Silver of Bronx, NY.
In addition he is survived by his sister-in-law, Marcelle (Lord) Silver, his sister-in-law Margaret Flannery and his brother-in-law Joseph Flannery, his sister-in-law Effie (Bikos) Barrows, and his brother-in-law Leo Foley and many nieces and nephews.
Ron was also predeceased by his two brothers, the Rev. Bertram N. Silver, O.M.I., who died in August of 2014 and Richard T. Silver, his two sisters, Margaret A. Silver and Nathalie (Silver) Whitney, his cousin Robert Mulvey and his brother-in-law, Richard Whitney.
Friends may call for a Memorial Visitation at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME, 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 3 to 7 P.M. Friday, February 20th. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Saturday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH at 11 o’clock.
