Toula A. Laganas

Beloved sister, dedicated and respected school teacher

Toula A. Laganas, the sixth and beloved daughter of the late Constantine and the late Anastasia (Andrianopoulos) Laganas, sadly and quietly left our earthly home for a heavenly one on Sunday, August 16th embraced by her loving family.
Toula was blessed with the gifts of kindness, sensitivity, generosity, strength, boundless energy, good health, quiet humility all wrapped up with grace, dignity, smiles and a loving heart.
Family was special to her,..harmony, peace, joy and respect were the ingredients she held dear.
She valued and cherished her friends of old and always welcomed new acquaintances, eagerly extending a helping hand to all.
Toula was blessed with creativity in the arts..Music was one of her passions and as a pianist, she made the keys shout or whisper…She held her listeners in awe as she played Chopin’s Polonaise in A-flat major..She delighted in creating and stitching needlepoint designs; in tending to the flower garden and entertaining in her beloved home.
Toula did her undergraduate studies at Lowell Teachers College and earned her Master’s Degree and her Certificate of Advanced Graduate Study from Boston University. She was a member of Pi Lambda Theta Chapter, a national honor society for women in education.
Her teaching career in the Newton Schools, which spanned over 40 years, was one of dedication and her greatest delight was sharing her classroom with her little students in a colorful, warm and comfortable atmosphere for learning.
Toula enjoyed her association as an admirer and participant in the Lowell Girls Club; Lowell College Club; Concord Museum; Whistler House; Merrimack River Valley House; and the Women’s Auxiliary, Philoptochos of the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church.
With all Toula’s blessings, the most treasured gift to us and will continue to be, is Toula. She is the “gift” our good Lord gave to all of us to continue to love and keep in our hearts forever.
She will be dearly missed by her sisters, Olga Laganas of Lowell, Theda Triantafel of Andover, Patricia Dukakis of Wellesley and her brother-in-law, Charles P. Sarantos of North Andover; her nephew, Constantine “Dino” Sarantos, his wife Elizabeth and their children Alyssa and Christopher Sarantos; her niece, Anastasia S. Taskin and her husband Cengiz of NYC; her niece. Amalie Ann George of Needham.
In addition to her parents, Toula was predeceased by her sisters, Mary Laganas, Iris Sarantos and Helen George and her brothers-in-laws, George P. Triantafel, George S. George and Arthur G. Dukakis.

To this day her name comes up at family gatherings and usually a fun memory to go along with it. She always made each and every child feel special. She attended several parties in our home and always a very special guest. We will always be grateful for having known and loved her. Our deepest condolences to her family and friends.

My mother was overjoyed when she found out that Ms. Laganas was going to be my kindergarten teacher as she was once her teacher as well. I can still remember our bright, sunny classroom and the fact that she always helped me find the pair of "lefty" scissors. For all my remaining years at Franklin Ms. Laganas always remembered me with a cheerful smile. I am forever grateful to her, she will be truly missed.

Miss Laganas was my Kindergarten teacher at Franklin Elementary School in Newton, MA (1968-1969). She had a gentle and kind spirit and respect and love for the children and families she taught. I had the opportunity to speak with her about 2 years ago. She had the same gentle and kind spirit as she did back at Franklin. May the many wonderful memories and times you've shared with her bring comfort to your family during this difficult time. Sincerely, Lisa

Ms. Laganas was my kindergarten teacher as well as my Fathers and 20 of my cousins. To this day, 48 years later, I still have lots of memories of her and her class. From the gum drop Christmas tree, to milk and graham crackers to stacking rods at my little desk these memories will be with me for a life time. She represented everything that made the Newton Public Schools the best in the country. She will be missed but will always be in our hearts.
  • William Thomas  - Gentle Loving Soul
Mom (Ethel) and I pass on our most heartfelt condolences to the loving family of our dear departed Toula. She brought such kindness and loving joy to our lives. My sadness is tempered by the wonderful memories she, Mary and Olga left us with on their frequent visits to our home in Florida. I smile every time I think of her. Her grace, generosity and boundless energy enriched our lives. Another piece of our hearts goes to heaven with this beautiful "angel". We can only rejoice in knowing we ALL will be reunited in a place of splendor one day. Be at peace my dear Toula. We are better people for having known and loved you.
