Marcelle W. (Lord) Silver
Loving mother and grandmother;
Marcelle W. (Lord) Silver, 94, a member of a well known Lowell family, passed away peacefully at West Shore Health Center in Warwick, RI, with her family by her side.
She was the beloved wife of the late Richard T. Silver who died in 1985.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 3, 1921, the daughter of the late Louis J. and the late Clementine (Desmarais) Lord, she attended Notre Dame de Lourdes Grammar School and was a graduate of St. Joseph’s Girl’s High School in the Class of 1938.
Prior to her retirement in 1983, Marcelle worked in the Lowell District Court for over 25 years, mostly as Executive Assistant to Presiding Justice Elliott Cowdrey.
An accomplished singer and performer, she sang in the Dick Silver Orchestra through the years at various musical venues in Greater Lowell including the former Commodore Ballroom in Lowell.
However her true passion was her grandchildren, who along with her daughters brought her the greatest joy and happiness in her later years.
In addition, Marcelle lived abroad with her family in England for a number of years where she travelled throughout Europe.
She is survived by a daughter Cheryl S. Starkey and her husband Kenneth of Warwick, RI; five grandchildren Samantha Starkey of New York City, Gabriella Starkey of Warwick, RI, Griffin Starkey of Warwick, RI, Jason Cornu of Napa, CA and Ryan Cornu of Ashville, NC; a son in law Thomas Cornu and his wife Lorraine of Nahant; and many nieces and nephews.
Marcelle was also the loving mother of the late Susan Cornu who died in 1993.
Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday. Relative and friends are invited to her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Friday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH at 11 o’clock. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, North Tewksbury.
