Richard Bennett

Rich Bennett, 63, beloved husband of Joan (McPartlin) Bennett,  died on Friday, October 30, 2015 at Massachusetts General Hospital after an extended illness.
Rich was born in Lancaster, PA. He attended Towson State University in Maryland. He went on to obtain a Master’s degree at the University of Connecticut and his doctorate in psychology from Massachusetts School of Professional Psychology.
For many years Rich had a private psychology practice in Westford. He was very proud of the work he did with his clients especially those dealing with issues of substance abuse. He was very active in the Westford Rotary Club where he served as President and was a Paul Harris Fellow.  In addition, he was a former trustee of the J.V. Fletcher Library and an Officer of the Friends of the Library.
Later in his career, he worked for RHR and Plaut as an organizational consultant to Fortune 500 companies dealing with issues of change management.
Eight and a half years ago Rich was fortunate enough to be the recipient of a heart transplant. As a result he treasured each day. He was a huge promoter of encouraging everyone to become an organ donor when they renew their driver license. Please consider doing this in his memory.
In addition to his wife with whom he would have celebrated thirty years of marriage in February, he is survived by his loving son, Keith Boulanger, his daughter in law Cyril and his grandson, Zacch, of Billerica. He is also survived by his mother, Jeanne Bennett, of Cornwall, PA., his sisters Nancy Brown and her husband Charles of Newtown, PA, Suzie Greiner of Stroudsburg, PA, Barbara Herr of Los Angeles, CA and a special cousin, Sarah Spillane, of Upton, MA.
Funeral Services will be private. E-condolences may be made at odonnellfuneralhome.com. Because the library was such a special place to him, if you wish to make a contribution in his memory gifts may be made to the J.V. Fletcher Library Memorial Book & Gift Account, 50 Main St., Westford, MA 01886. Arrangements by the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME – Lowell (978) 458-8768.

  • Barry Block  - The brother I never had...
From third grade through ninth, we lived about a mile apart, and spent many out-of-school hours together. I was something of an outcast in those years; if someone were to write my biography, there would be at least a chapter about Rich. We were out of touch, for many years, but I treasure the time I had, with the truly amazing man he grew up to be.

Joan: Though I never met Richard just reading about his life and his many accomplishments tells me he was a very special person. Anyone who serves the less fortunate of our society, as he has, deserves special recognition for their devotion to those in need.
