David L. Gannon, Sr.

 

Beloved father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend;

 
David L. Gannon, Sr, 80, a member of a well-known Lowell family, died peacefully in his sleep at Northwood Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Lowell on Monday December 21.
 
He was the husband of the late Joan (Lynch) Gannon who died in 2009. 
 
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts on Sept. 5, 1935, the son of the late Daniel J. Gannon, Sr. and the late Katherine (Grady) Gannon, he attended Lowell schools and was a communicant at St. Rita’s Church.
 
An excellent athlete, Dave excelled in basketball and was even inducted in the Gryphon Hall of Fame for the Lowell Trade School class of 1953.
 
David, a proud veteran, entered the U.S. Air Force and served during the Korean War in North Dakota and Iceland from 1953-1957.
 
A master pipefitter for many years, Dave later was a Housing Inspector for the City of Lowell before retiring in Rye, NH, Florida and Lowell.
 
Dave always had a funny story to tell and had a keen sense of humor that made all around him laugh even in the most difficult times.  He had a strong sense of family whom he loved very much. He was caring, jovial, supportive and loving.  He will be deeply missed. 
 
David is survived by two daughters, Elizabeth Moffett and her husband David of Somersworth, NH, Laura Gannon-Murakami and her husband Kentaro of Shelburne VT; one son, David Gannon Jr. and Teri True of Lakeway TX.   five grandchildren,   Jason Barnes, USCG and his wife Ashley (O’Dell) of Kodiak AK, Kyle Barnes of S. Berwick ME, Ken Murakami of Pittsburgh PA, Gina Murakami of Boulder CO and David Gannon of Lakeway, TX and two great grandchildren, Jason and Sheala Barnes of Kodiak AK.  He is also survived by two sisters, Joan Publicover of Lowell and Isabelle Gannon and her husband Paul Paris of Methuen MA; and was beloved by many nieces and nephews.
 
David is predeceased by three brothers, Daniel  Gannon, Jr, John Barry Gannon and Richard Gannon and two sisters, Katherine Kiernan and Sheila Bishop all of Lowell.
 
Sadly, David’s sister-in-law Theresa (Belanger) Gannon of Lowell also passed away  this week on Tuesday December 22, 2015 the day after David.

His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Monday morning at St. Rita’s Church in Lowell at 10:30 A.M. Burial in St. Mary Cemetery, No. Tewksbury.     I hope that you rememeber me. I used to be your dads secretary at the city. I just very recently was thinking about your father. I used to hear from him and hadn't in a long time. I was wondering about him. I just heard the news. I am so sorry. He was a super person.
