Thomas P. Conlon, Jr., 80, a lifelong Lowell resident, died peacefully on Friday, Jan. 8, at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Dorothy E. (Trickett) Conlon, who survives him and with whom he celebrated their 53rd wedding anniversary on Nov. 4, 2015. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, on Feb. 11, 1935, the son of the late Thomas P. and the late Catherine (O’Connor) Conlon, he attended St. Patrick Boy’s School and was a graduate of Lowell High School with the Class of 1952. A veteran of the Korean War, he served as a Seaman with the U.S. Navy. Following his military service, he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Criminal Justice from Northeastern University in Boston. Lieutenant Conlon’s police career began on June 2, 1963, when he was appointed a reserve officer for the City of Lowell. He was appointed a permanent officer on March 15, 1964. On Dec. 10, 1978, he was promoted to Sergeant and then Lieutenant on July 10, 1983, a position he held until his retirement in 1992. Among his many activities, Tom was an avid golfer. He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf Club, where he was also a past president. He also enjoyed bird watching and vacationing with his family at York Beach, Maine, and enjoyed special trips to Prince Edward Island with Dorothy. A big fan of the New England Patriots, he also had a passion for college basketball and absolutely loved the Montreal Canadiens. He was a member of the Ancient Order of Hibernians, the East End Club, and the Retired Police Officers Organization in Lowell. Very proud of his Irish heritage, Tom also was a proud and moral man who believed that education was extremely important in one’s life. In addition to his wife Dorothy, Tom is survived by four daughters: Nancyellen Pierce and her husband, Irmin, of Ayer, Mass.; Christine C. Ryan and her husband, Sean, of Lowell; Maureen P. Daly and her husband, Stephen, of Lowell; and Dee Moloney and her husband, Mark, of Hudson, N.H.; two sons: Thomas P. Conlon III and his companion, Holly Dean, of Dracut, Mass.; and James K. Conlon and his wife, Jessica, of Lowell; a daughter-in-law, Janet Conlon, of Nashua, N.H.; ten grandchildren: Jeffrey Hamel and his wife, Stephanie, of Hooksett, N.H.; Sean Conlon and his wife, Sarah, of Londonderry, N.H.; Meagan Conlon and her fiancé, Hiroshi Hatanaka, of Japan; and Kaleigh Ryan and her companion, Richard Barrett; Sean Ryan, Jr., Shannon Ryan, Brooke Daly, and Katherine Daly, all of Lowell, and Emily Moloney and Charlotte Moloney of Hudson, N.H.; two sisters: Therese D’Abre of Hyannis, Mass., and Maureen Conlon-Pearce of Sanford, Maine; as well as his dear friends Harry Spead, Robert Ogden, and Kevin Murphy; and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Tuesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Wednesday morning at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in Lowell at 10 o’clock. Burial will follow at St. Mary Cemetery in Tewksbury.
