I am so fortunate to have my life cross paths with Mary and her two sons Robert and Richard. Mary was a wonderful woman who showed strength, perseverance and grace at the end of her life. My condolences to her wonderful sons.

Mary E. (McGrath) Farias, 92, a lifelong resident of Lowell, died Monday, May 2nd at her home with her loving family by her side. She was the beloved wife of the late Antonio Farias who died June 15, 1977.
Born in Brookside, Massachusetts, now known as Westford, June 9, 1923, the daughter of the late Raymond and the late Blanche (Doherty) McGrath, she received her education at St. Patrick’s School in Lowell. She was a longtime communicant of St. Margaret Church in Lowell and member of the Poor Clare Guild as well. Among her many activities, Mary enjoyed bowling, baking, going to the movies and loved reading, especially mysteries including the Nancy Drew series. Above all else though, she loved the quality time she spent with her family. Mary is survived by two daughters Dorothy Farias Thurston Miller of Burbank, CA and Patricia Farias Blount and her husband Robert of Anchorage, AK; two sons Robert A. Farias and Richard W. Farias both of Lowell; five grandchildren; thirteen great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; a brother John McGrath and his wife Dot of Tucson, AZ; her dear friends Robert and Claire Carriveau of Homosassa, FL; and several nieces and nephews. She was also mother of the late William Farias, and sister of the late Florence (McGrath) Cochran, Thomas McGrath and Norman McGrath. Mary’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all the Sisters at the Monastery of St. Clare for their spiritual guidance and comfort shown to her over many years, especially Sister Mary Christina. They would also like to thank Circle Home Health and Hospice and a special thanks to her Health Care Aides, Talitha Mansaray and Tatiana Ocampo who took such great care of their mother.
