James D. Sullivan
Loving father, grandfather, brother and friend;
James D. Sullivan, 73, of Chelmsford, a well-known former local businessman, died Saturday June 11th at the Palm Center in Chelmsford.
Born June 24, 1942, in Lowell, Massachusetts, the son of the late Dr. John A. and the late A. Agnes (Dillon) Sullivan, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1961.
He went on to graduate from the College of Holy Cross with a Bachelor of Science in Economics in 1965.
Jim was the owner and operator of Handi-van/Care Ambulance, as well as the former Dillon’s Cleaners in Lowell. Prior to his retirement, he was the Transit Manager for First Transit in Toledo, OH.
A member of the Chelmsford Senior Center and the Holy Cross Alumni Association, Jim enjoyed spending time with his family, golfing and was an ardent fan of the band U2 and an ice cream connoisseur.
Jim is survived by a daughter Meg Sullivan Staknis and her husband David of Bedford; three sons John D. Sullivan, a Lt. with the Lowell Fire Dept., and his wife Mary Jo of Chelmsford, James C. “Jay” Sullivan of Chelsea, and Paul V. Sullivan of Chapel Hill, NC; three grandchildren James Staknis, Grace Sullivan and Owen Sullivan; a sister Carol Spong and her husband Frederick of LaJolla, CA; and several nieces and nephews.He was also the brother of the late John A. Sullivan, Jr.
Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Friday morning at the Immaculate Conception Church at 10 o’clock. Committal Services will be private.
