 Edward F. “Bud” Slattery, Jr., 80, of Hampton, NH, formerly of Lowell, died Thursday, April 13th at his home with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Sara E. “Sally” (Regan) Slattery who survives him and with whom he celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on February 28th of this year.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, April 10, 1937, the son of the late Edward F. and the late Mary (Murphy) Slattery, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1954. Following graduation from Lowell High, Bud attended Providence College on a baseball scholarship, and after completing an exceptional college career, signed a professional baseball contract with the San Francisco Giants.
 Bud served as Director of Athletics at Greater Lowell from 1974 until his retirement in 1982. He was one of the founding fathers of Greater Lowell’s highly regarded athletic program. In addition, he was one of the driving forces in the formation of the Commonwealth Athletic Conference, which was formed to meet the needs of vocational high school athletic programs in Eastern Mass., and a conference in which the Gryphons continue to compete to this day. Previously, he taught English, served as a coach and was Head of the English Department.
 He was a member of the Mt. Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell.
 In addition to his wife Sally, Bud is survived by a daughter Kelly Britton and her husband Frankie of Hampton, NH; five sons Edward F. “Ted” Slattery, III and his fiancée Kelly Horan of Chelmsford, MA, Paul R. Slattery of Lowell, Kevin M. Slattery and his wife Andrea of No. Andover, MA, James Slattery and his wife Anne of Chelmsford, MA and David Slattery and his wife Ellen of Lowell; twelve grandchildren Molly, Emily, Patrick, Meghan, Connor, Shannon, Brianna, Ryan, Julia, Jack, Thomas and Kathryn; a sister Mary F. Slattery of Lowell; and many nieces and nephews.
 Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. from 4 to 8 P.M. on Monday. His Funeral Mass will be celebrated Tuesday morning at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in Lowell (PLEASE MEET AT CHURCH) at 11 o’clock followed by his Committal Prayers at St. Patrick Cemetery in Lowell.
