Mary Gail Kennedy, R.N., 72, formerly of Lowell, but more recently of Newburyport, died Sunday morning June 11, 2017 at her home in Newburyport surrounded by her family.
 
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, November 7, 1944, a daughter of the late James J. and the late Margaret M. (Shanahan) Kennedy, she attended St. Patrick's School and was a graduate of Notre Dame Academy in 1962.
 
She went on to attend Tewksbury Hospital School of Nursing attaining Licensed Practical Nurse and then Northern Essex Community College to become a Registered Nurse. In 1991, Mary Gail graduated from the Massachusetts College of Pharmacy with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Nursing.

Mary Gail worked many years as an RN and ended her career working for Merrimack Valley Hospice. She will be remembered for her selflessness, strong faith, and love for her family and friends. Her loved ones will also miss her witty sense of humor.
 
Mary Gail was a member of the Massachusetts Nursing Association, the Friends of Tewksbury Hospital and the U.S.C.M.E of Massachusetts.
 
A lifelong communicant of St. Patrick Church in Lowell, she held membership in St. Patrick Sodality and was a Eucharistic Minister.
 
Mary Gail is survived by a daughter Margaret Mary (Janowicz) Childs and her husband Craig of Newburyport; a son John J. Janowicz and his wife Vicki of Lowell; eight grandchildren Scott Childs, Zachary Childs, Thomas Childs, Faith Childs, John Janowicz, James Janowicz, Nicole Janowicz, and Andrew Janowicz; a great grandson Collin Janowicz; a brother James T. Kennedy of Lowell; and nephews Thomas and James Kennedy. 
 
She was also the mother of the late Joseph D. Janowicz who died in 1998.
 
Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. Wednesday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Thursday morning at ST. PATRICK CHURCH at 10 o’clock followed by burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
