Loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt and friend

 
 Claire (Roy) Shugrue, 88, of Lowell, died Thursday, July 20th at Lowell General Hospital. She was the beloved wife of the late James B. Shugrue, Sr. who died November 4, 2000.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, November 15, 1928, a daughter of the late Onesine and the late Irene (Geoffroy) Roy, she attended St. Jeanne D’Arc School and was a graduate of St. Joseph High School both in Lowell. Eager to further her education, she then went on to graduate from the School of Nursing at the former Lowell Trade School (now known as the Greater Lowell Technical High School).
 Before retiring, Claire was employed as a Licensed Practical Nurse at the former St. John’s Hospital (now known as Lowell General Hospital – Saints Campus) for over 15 years.
 A longtime parishioner of St. Margaret Church in Lowell, she was also a member of the Oblate Mission Club and the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality.
 An avid golfer, Claire was a member of Mt. Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell for over 50 years. She was also a member of the Lowell, Dracut and Chelmsford Senior Centers. Above all else though, she loved taking trips and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
 Claire is survived by eight children Elizabeth A. Santagati of Lowell, Janyce M. Breton and her husband Michael of Dracut, MA, Brenda J. Lorrey and her fiance Fernando Carvalho of Center Barnstead, NH, Elinor L. Sadlier of Lowell, James B. Shugrue, Jr. and his wife Mary Lynn of Lowell, Roberta F. Woelfel and her husband Timothy of Lowell, Dorothy C. Dodge and her husband William of New Boston, NH and William H. Shugrue of Lowell; 17 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; a sister Rita (Corcoran) Meinholtz of Windham, NH; many nieces and nephews; her “seventh” daughter JoAnn Keegan of Lowell; and her many special friends.
 She was also grandmother of the late Kevin M. Breton and Edward “Teddy” Dillon, sister of the late Blanche Stewart, Annette Grondine, Alice Duff, Theresa Wilson, George Roy and Cecile Regan and mother-in-law of the late Charles S. Santagati, Jr.
 Friends may call at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 2 to 6 P.M. Sunday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated Monday morning at ST. MARGARET CHURCH in Lowell at 10 o’clock followed by her Committal Service at St. Patrick Cemetery.
