James M. Muldoon
Co-owner Muldoon Bros Inc. in Lowell James M. Muldoon, 76, a resident of the Highlands section of Lowell and a member of a well-known Lowell family, died Tuesday morning at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston after a brief illness. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Vulgaropulos) Muldoon, with whom he would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June 2018. Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, May 10, 1941, a son of the late James H. and the late Natalie (Purtell) Muldoon, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of the former Keith Academy in 1958. Jim proudly served his country as a member of the U.S. Marine Corps. Jim was the co-owner and operator, along with his brother Arthur, of Muldoon Brothers Inc., an oil, gas and service station in Lowell for over thirty five years. An institution in the Acre, it was a gathering spot for good friends and good service to their many friends and customers until his retirement in December 2016. Among his many activities, he was a member of the Lowell Sportsman's Club and the Spindle City Pigeon Racing Club. Jim also enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren, car racing and hanging out with his buddies at Muldoon's. Besides his wife, Jim is survived by a son James P. Muldoon and his wife Jennifer L. Coghlan of Rockville Centre, NY; two daughters Elena M. Muldoon and her husband Gilbert A. Flores of Brooklyn, NY and Mary D. Bellerose and her husband Daniel J. of Newburyport, MA; six grandchildren Sarah, Isabel, Danny, Jack, Andrew and James; a brother Arthur R. Muldoon of Dunstable, MA; a sister Barbara M. Doherty and her husband Lawrence of Exeter, NH; his brother-in-law Dr. Spyro Vulgaropulos and his wife Jan; his sister-in-law Denise Papanastassiou and her husband Peter; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law Eileen Muldoon and his nephew Thomas Doherty. Friends may call at the O'DONNELLFUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. at Fletcher from 4 to 8 P.M. Friday. Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Funeral Mass to be celebrated Saturday at 12 o'clock Noon at St. Patrick’s Church followed by his burial at St. Patrick Cemetery.
