James B. “Jimmy” Prescott

 
 WW II U.S. Marine Veteran
 
 James B. “Jimmy” Prescott, 94, of Lowell, died Sunday, October 2nd at the Genesis Westford House in Westford.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, January 21, 1922, a son of the late William M. and the late Mary E. (Mullen) Prescott, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1941.
 A veteran of World War II, Jimmy proudly served his country in the U.S. Marine Corps as a Corporal with L Company, 3rd Battalion, 5th Marines.
 Before retiring, he was employed as a truck driver for the Courier Citizen Company in Lowell for over 39 years.
 Among his many activities, Jimmy loved golfing and was a member of Mt. Pleasant Golf Club in Lowell. He also enjoyed playing cards, following horse racing at Rockingham Park and Saratoga and was an avid New England sports fan, especially of the Patriots and Red Sox. He was a member of the 1st Marines Division Association and a life member of the BPOE #87 Lowell Lodge of Elks.
 Jimmy is survived by two sisters Dorothy A. Cleary of Tampa, FL and Martha E. Hickey of Chelmsford, MA; a sister-in-law Rosemarie Prescott of Nashua, NH; and several nieces and nephews.
 He was also brother of the late M. Rita Leary, William M. Prescott, Jr. and John F. Prescott and brother-in-law of the late William F. Leary, John J. Hickey and Edward D. Cleary.

Loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and nurse
 
      Virginia M. “Gini” (Roper) O’Donnell, R.N. 63 of Lowell, died Sunday, October 2nd, at Lowell General Hospital, Saints Campus with her loving family by her side, following a courageous battle with cancer.
      Gini was the loving wife of Mark S. O’Donnell who survives her and with whom she celebrated their 40th wedding anniversary on August 21st of this year.
      Born in Tewksbury, MA, January 21, 1953, daughter of the late Albert and the late Mary (Donnelly) Roper.  Gini attended Tewksbury schools and graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science Nursing degree from Lowell State College (NKA U/Mass Lowell) in 1975.  Gini received her Master’s Degree from Cambridge College in 2013.
      Gini began her nursing career with the Lowell Visiting Nurses Association. She worked full time and on a per diem basis at St. John’s Hospital (now known as Lowell General Hospital) for 30 years.  She later became a school nurse in the Billerica Public Schools and worked there for 19 years. 
      She was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.
      Gini enjoyed watching and cheering for her three sons who participated in soccer, basketball and baseball. Although she enjoyed all three sports, baseball was her first love and the Red Sox were her favorite team. Gini enjoyed vacationing at Seabrook Beach in NH, cruising with her sister, Karen, and visiting Disneyworld in Florida with her family.  She was an avid shopper with a keen eye for a bargain.
      At a professional level, Gini was passionate about providing quality healthcare services to students at the Parker and Vining Schools in Billerica. She published a healthcare manual for the teaching staff and provided one-on-one assistance to parents.
      Gini was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister and friend.  Her laughter and sense of humor will be missed by all who had the pleasure and privilege of knowing her.  Gini was truly, “one of a kind”.
      In addition to her husband, Mark, Gini is survived by her three sons, Christopher and his wife Deborah O’Donnell of Atlanta, GA, John O’Donnell of Lowell, and Michael “Mikey” O’Donnell of Lowell; a sister, Karen Pringle, of Dracut; a brother, Albert “Skip” Roper and his wife Cindy of Westford; two grandchildren, Ryan and Claire O’Donnell; a mother-in-law, Ann M. O’Donnell; a brother-in-law, Thomas J. O’Donnell and his wife Gail; two sisters-in-law, Deborah A. McLaughlin and her husband Thomas, and Pamela A. Barry and her husband Kevin; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
      Gini’s family would like to express their gratitude to the doctors, nurses and staff at Lowell General Hospital, at both the Main and Saints Campuses, for their warm and compassionate care during this difficult time.

Joseph D. McCabe

Loving husband, father, brother and friend; 

Joseph D. McCabe, 52, of Lowell, died Friday, September 30th at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston with his loving family by his side, following a long and courageous battle with cancer.
 
He was the beloved husband of Brenda (Courtney) McCabe who survives him and with whom he celebrated their 28th wedding anniversary on April 23rd of this year.
 
Born in Boston, Massachusetts, April 11, 1964, a son of the late Francis and the late Margaret (Folan) McCabe, he attended Easton, Massachusetts schools and was a graduate of Oliver Ames High School in the Class of 1982. Eager to further his education, he then went on to attain a Bachelor of Science degree in Plastics Engineering from U-Mass Lowell in 1986 and then a Master of Business Administration from Western New England College.
 
Most recently, Joe was the Marketing Manager and longtime Engineer with Epoxy Technology in Billerica where he worked for almost 20 years.
 
He was a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church in Lowell.
 
Among his many activities, Joe was a coach in the Shedd Park Youth Baseball Leagues and served as a referee for Girl’s Lacrosse. Joe also enjoyed golf and was a member of Longmeadow Golf Club. A proud alum of U-Mass Lowell, he was an avid fan of the Riverhawk’s hockey team.
 
But what was most important to Joe was his family. He especially enjoyed the time he spent with his wife Brenda and his children. 
 
A person of great faith, Joe was a very kind person whose quiet and sincere manner made all those around him feel like they had a good friend. He will be deeply missed by those who had the privilege to know him.
 
In addition to his wife Brenda, Joe is survived by three children, Michael F. McCabe, Madison M. McCabe and Maxwell J. McCabe all of Lowell; a sister Regina Thibault and her husband Darrin of Raynham, MA; two brothers Paul McCabe and his wife Maggie of Belmont, MA and John McCabe and his fiancée Nina of Worcester, MA; two sisters-in-law Mary Ann Maciejewski and her husband Paul and Suzanne Reece and her husband Brian all of Lowell; and many nieces, nephews and dear friends.
 
He was also brother of the late Peter McCabe who died in 1999.
 
Joe’s family would like to express their sincere appreciation for the profound compassionate care and comfort demonstrated by the doctors, nurses and staff at Dana Farber Cancer Center and Brigham and Women’s Hospital.

To those who knew her she was simply known as “Nana”;
 
 Agnes L. (Beauregard) McPhillips, 94, of Lowell, died Sunday, September 25th at D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell surrounded by her loving family. She was the beloved wife of the late James J. McPhillips who died in January 18, 1981.
 Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, May 22, 1922, a daughter of the late William J. and the late Catherine (McKenzie) Beauregard, she received her education at St. Patrick Girl’s School.
 Agnes was a lifelong communicant of St. Patrick Church in Lowell.
 Before retiring, Agnes was employed with the Farnsworth Company in Lowell and Polaroid Corporation in Waltham.
 In her younger years, Agnes was an avid bowler and bingo player. Later in life, she played cribbage, poker and was a tremendous Red Sox and Patriots fan. She also ran the bingo for the seniors at the Townhouse of Lowell for over 16 years.
 Agnes is survived by two sons James J. McPhillips III and his wife Dorothy and Kevin P. McPhillips all of Lowell; a daughter-in-law Beverly McPhillips and her husband Dennis Pare of Lowell; ten grandchildren; seventeen great-grandchildren; a great-great-granddaughter; a sister Sr. Catherine Louise, S.N.D. of Ipswich, MA; two sisters-in-law Katherine McPhillips and Doris Beauregard; a brother-in-law Maurice McNulty; and many nieces and nephews.
 She was also mother of the late William (Billy) McPhillips and sister of the late Sr. Catherine St. Paul, S.N.D., Catherine McNulty, Irene Lopes, William Beauregard, Roland Beauregard, Ernest Beauregard and Robert Beauregard.
 The McPhillips family wishes to extend their sincere appreciation and thanks to Dr. George Meltsakos, Melissa and Boston Nursing and the staff at D’Youville Senior Care Center in Lowell.
