Alberta K. "Bert" (King) Cavanaugh

Beloved wife, mother, nana, sister, and aunt;

Alberta K. “Bert” (King) Cavanaugh, 75, of Tyngsboro, Massachusetts, passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2026, at Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston surrounded by her loving family.

She was the devoted wife for 43 years of Kenneth T. Cavanaugh, who survives her.

Born in York, ME, July 25, 1950, the daughter of the late Peter J. and the late Phyllis C. (Crotty) King, she attended Lowell Schools and graduated from Lowell High School in the class of 1968.

After high school, Bert attended Merrimack College and earned a Bachelor’s of Arts degree in English.

Before retirement, she worked for 25 years as the Assistant Director of Financial Aid at UMass Boston. Previously, she had worked in Financial Aid at UMass Lowell for 15 years.

Bert enjoyed knitting and reading in her spare time, and summering in Maine. Her favorite thing to do was spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren.

Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Peter R. Cavanaugh and his wife Emily of Norwood, MA; a daughter, Courtney C. Reader and her husband Kevin of Nashua, NH; three grandchildren, Delaney R. Cavanaugh, William T. Cavanaugh, and Michael A. Reader; a sister, Nancy A. King-Burke and her husband Chris of Andover, MA; two brothers, Paul S. King and his wife Janice M. of Andover, MA, and Matthew J. King and his wife Ellen Kelliher-King of Longmeadow, MA; a brother-in-law, Stephen Cavanaugh and his wife Linda of Williamsburg, VA; a brother-in-law the late Roger J. Cavanaugh and many nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends may call for her Visitation on Friday, February 27, 2026, at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in LOWELL from 9:00 to 10:45 A.M. followed by her Funeral Mass to be held in the church at 11:00 A.M.
