Antonio Loureiro Obituary

Antonio Leite Loureiro, 78, who was born, and raised his family in Lowell, and recently resided in Nashua, NH died peacefully on Tuesday morning, May 13th surrounded by the love of his life, Linda (Sousa) Loureiro and his daughters.

Born on December 2, 1946, Tony was the only son of the late Fernando Loureiro & Adalice (Leite) Loureiro who immigrated from Portugal - Porto and the Azores respectively - and lived in the Back Central section of Lowell.

Tony went to St. Peter’s School, played Little League baseball and would take your money at the Rialto if you challenged him to a game of pool. He graduated from Keith Academy Class of 1965 and served in the US Army.

While working at Honeywell in 1970, Tony met Linda and they married in 1973.  While Tony and Linda were raising their family in the Highlands section of Lowell, Tony worked long, hard hours as an Ironworker Local 7 in South Boston where he helped erect bridges, buildings across Boston’s skyline, expand Fenway Park and closer to home, the Wang Tower in Lowell.

Tony spent his free time watching and coaching his four daughters playing basketball. He was their biggest fan no matter what sport, job or extracurricular activity they pursued. When he did relax it was usually while listening to music, getting together with friends, finishing a crossword puzzle, or spending a full day at the beach.

Despite being diagnosed with MS in 1994, Tony never let the debilitating disease affect his spirit.  He advocated for disability rights for others traveling to Beacon and Capitol Hills. Tony had a genuine interest in meeting new people, and would often be seen striking up a conversation with people passing by his favorite spot in York, Maine.

Tony will be missed by his wife of 52 years, Linda, and four daughters, Kimberlee Loureiro and JP Lemire of New Hampshire, Lori and her husband David Trahan of Westford, Amy and her husband Rob D’Amico of Andover, and Bria Loureiro of New Hampshire, as well as his ten grandchildren, Jack Barnes, Thomas, Dean and his wife Kelly, Christian, Grace and Caroline Trahan, Ava and Ellie D’Amico, Rosabell and Amelia Grady. He is also survived by his sister-in-law Audrey Ubele and his nephew Steven.

The Loureiro family wants to thank Bria Loureiro and Merrimack Valley Hospice in Haverhill for their compassionate, dignified care in Tony’s final days of life.
