Barbara A. (Zunka) Flaherty

Beloved mother, grandmother, great- grandmother, and aunt;

Barbara A. (Zunka) Flaherty, 97, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Wednesday September 27, 2023, at Lowell General Hospital in Lowell, MA.

She was the beloved wife of the late John J. Flaherty, Sr.

Born in Lowell, MA, on January 10, 1926, the daughter of the late John and the late Julia (Greska) Zunka, she was a graduate of Lowell High School in the Class of 1943 and was a Lieutenant with the LHS Girl Officers. Later, she attended Katherine Gibbs School in Boston, Class of 1945.

Prior to her retirement, Barbara worked as a Technician at UMASS Lowell for over 20 years.

Barbara is survived by three children: John J. Jay Flaherty, Jr. and his wife Mary of Tewksbury, MA, Lee Flaherty of Lowell, MA, Kerry Scott and her husband David of Chelmsford, MA; four grandchildren Kelly (Flaherty) Wall and her husband Michael of Methuen, MA, Patrick Flaherty of Tewksbury, MA, Laura (Scott) Nordengren and her husband Conor of Littleton, MA, Ellery (Scott) Colliton and her husband Patrick of Georgetown, MA; six great-grandchildren Sean, Rylee, Nolan, Grace, Rose and Walker; and several nieces and nephews.

She was the mother of the late Patricia J. Flaherty and the sister of the late John Zunka.
