Barbara A. (Howe) Scagos

Beloved mother, grandmother, great grandmother, and aunt;

Barbara A. (Howe) Scagos, 89, of Gorham, Maine, but formerly of Lowell, passed away on Thursday, August 21, 2025, at Fallbrook Commons in Portland, ME.

She was the loving wife for 61 years of William E. Scagos, who predeceased her.

Born in Lowell, MA, April 20, 1936, the daughter of the late Joseph J. and Anna L. (McDonough) Howe, she attended St. Patrick Grammar School and graduated from Lowell High School in the class of 1954.

Prior to her retirement, Barbara was a Manager with the Sears Catalog Division in the Burlington and Hanover locations, where she worked for over 25 years.

Barbara was a member of United Commercial Travelers, a non-profit organization that supports communities and causes across the United States and Canada. She was active in politics and enjoyed getting into political discussions. In the winter, she spent her time in Florida and as a "Snow Bird" was a member of the Four Seasons Social Activities Club in Largo, FL. Her greatest joy was to spend time with her family.

Barbara is survived by two children, Cheryl A. Langlois of Gorham, ME, and Neil P. Scagos and his fiancée Stephanie Syllaba of Macedonia, OH; nine grandchildren, David O’Donnell and his wife Julia, Nicole O’Donnell, Christine Lynn Scagos and her husband Josh, William B. Scagos, Jr., Nicole Langlois, Robert Langlois, Casse Gang and her husband Spencer, Kyle Syllaba, and Logan Syllaba; ten great grandchildren, Luke, Sam, Tommy, Frankie, Johnny, Adelyn, Courtney, Autumn, Colin, and Millie; many special nieces and nephews; and her special cat, Buddy.

She was the mother of the late William Brian Scagos and the mother-in-law of the late Michael R. Langlois. She was the sister of the late Margaret B. McAndrews, Joseph J. Howe, John J. Howe, and Michael A. Howe.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass to be celebrated on Wednesday morning August 27, 2025, at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL, MA 01854 at 10:00 AM.
