Beloved husband, father, step-father and grandfather
Charles J. Slattery, 89, of Rye Beach, New Hampshire and formerly of Chelmsford, MA, passed away peacefully on Friday January 2, 2026, at Beth Israel Hospital in Needham, MA surrounded by loving family.
Born on October 21, 1936, the son of the late Joseph J. Slattery Sr. and the late Kathleen (Smith) Slattery, Charles grew up in the Highlands section of Lowell, Massachusetts. He graduated from Keith Academy in Lowell and came from a large, well-known Lowell family. His family once owned Slattery Brothers Grocery Store, a longstanding fixture in the community, and Charles was the last surviving member of his generation.
He lived for more than 40 years in Chelmsford, Massachusetts, where he raised his two children with his first wife, Mary Slattery. They shared a loving and devoted marriage of 32 years, centered on family, commitment, and shared values, until her passing. Later in life, Charles married Brenda (Joy) Marshall, and together they spent 27 wonderful years in Rye, New Hampshire. He cherished summers at Rye Beach and winters in St. Petersburg, Florida, and had a deep love for the sun, the ocean, and coastal life.
Charles worked for 37 years as a manager for the telephone company and took great pride in his career, where he was known for his dedication and strong work ethic. Earlier in life, he enjoyed skiing and was involved in the Woburn Ski Club, where he held leadership roles. He was also active in the Holy Name Society and participated in several local and holiday fashion shows.
Charles was a man of few words but had a heart of gold. He was generous, dependable, and never missed a family event. Above all, he loved his family deeply and will be remembered for his quiet strength, loyalty, and steady presence.
Charles is survived by his daughter, Kara Farrell and Charles Redington of Walpole and Mashpee, Massachusetts; his granddaughters, Kayla Farrell, Haley Farrell, and Anna Farrell; his son, Charles Slattery, and his wife, Cheryl Slattery, of Windham, Maine; and his grandsons Charles, Christopher, and Stephen. He is also survived by his wife, Brenda (Joy) Marshall Slattery, of Rye, New Hampshire, and her children: Kirk Marshall and his wife, Jannis; Keith Marshall and his wife, Marianne; Kerry Blazon and her husband, David; and Kara Bouley and her husband, Paul, as well as many loving nieces and nephews.
Charles was predeceased by his first wife, Mary (Hand) Slattery; and his siblings Mary (Slattery) Boland, Ellen (Slattery) Scannell, Joseph J. Slattery Jr., and his twin brother, John Slattery.
