Elizabeth "Betty" (Maria) Gavriel

Beloved Mom, Grammie, GG, Sister-in-law, Godmother, Aunt, Cousin, and Friend;

Elizabeth “Betty” (Maria) Gavriel, 93, of Dracut, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 14, 2025.

Born in Lowell, MA, May 3, 1932, the daughter of the late George and the late Faye (George) Maria, she attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School Class of 1950.

She was the loving wife of the late Socrates N. Gavriel. Betty became a widow in 1964 and at age 32, had the overwhelming task of raising her four young children, George, Ted, Carol, and Fred. Fortunately for them, she was a strong woman and dedicated to her family. She taught her children the importance of faith, family, hard work, kindness, tolerance, generosity, forgiveness, and love.

Betty worked as an administrative assistant at Itek Corporation for over 30 years until retirement.

Betty was active with her church, enjoyed bingo, cribbage, trips to Foxwoods and was a member of the Dracut and Chelmsford Senior Centers. 

Her greatest joy was the time she spent with her family, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Betty is survived by her three sons George & his wife Deborah Gavriel, Theodore & his wife Cynthia Gavriel and Frederick & his wife Alyce Gavriel; her daughter and Best Friend Carol Gavriel & Jim Brown; her 10 grandchildren & their spouses Melanie Felker & Jim, Amy Dally & Tim, Jessica Hicks & Doug, Ronald Roberson & Erin, Socrates Gavriel & Elizabeth, Olivia Gavriel, Alexander Gavriel & Rachael, Spencer Gavriel, Austin Gavriel & Kaila, Anthony Hersey & Jessica; her 13 great grandchildren Nathan, Emma, Aiden, Brendan, Kiera, Alysia, Christian, Dominic, Josephine, Gavin, Anastasia, Isaac, Freya; her sister-in-law Elaine Maria; her Godchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was predeceased by her siblings Robert Maria, Frederick Maria, Josephine Nackel and Mary Saba, and her godsons Michael Nackel and David Saba.

Friends may call on Thursday December 18, 2025, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 9:30 to 11:00 A.M. Her Funeral Service will take place at ST. GEORGE ANTIOCHIAN ORTHODOX CHURCH in LOWELL at 11:30 A.M. Her burial will follow at the Westlawn Cemetery. E-condolences/directions at www.odonnellfuneralhome.com.
