Loving brother, uncle and friend;
James J. McPhillips, 55, of Dracut, Massachusetts, passed away unexpectedly on December 25, 2025, at his home.
Born in Newton, Massachusetts, June 18, 1970, the son of the late James J. and the late Dorothy F. (Tully) McPhillips, he attended Sacred Heart Grammar School and was a graduate of Lowell High School, Class of 1988.
Prior to his retirement, Jim was a Customer Service Representative with Verizon and later FairPoint Communications in New Hampshire. Previously, he had enjoyed working at Ray's Stateline and Brookside Farms in Pelham, NH.
Jim enjoyed crafting and was active with Stamp It Up. But some of his best times were when he was with his beloved dog, Chewy.
He is survived by his sister Karen E. McPhillips of Lowell; his brother John T. McPhillips and his wife Kellie of Fitchburg; two nephews Michael Haakenstad and Taber McPhillips; a niece Kayla Bartlett; several grand nieces and nephews; a great aunt Sister Catherine Louise SND of Ipswich, MA; an uncle John Tully and his wife Elaine of Sebastian, FL; and an aunt Beverly Pare and husband Dennis of Lowell, MA.
Jim was also the loving partner of the late Gary W. McCarthy, who died in March of 2024, and he is survived by Gary’s children Erin, Kelley, Brian and their three children, Maggie, Harper, and Emrie.
Friends may call on Friday January 9, 2025, for a Memorial Visitation at O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 9:30 to 11:15 A.M. followed by his Funeral Service in the funeral home at 11:30 A.M.
