Beloved son, brother, father, grandfather, uncle, nephew and friend
John P. “Jackie” Shanahan, Jr., 60, of Lowell, a member of a well-known Greater Lowell family, passed away on Tuesday, January 06, 2026, at his home, after a long courageous 10 year battle with cancer.
Born in Lowell, Massachusetts, February 13, 1965, the son of John P. “Jack” Shanahan, Sr. and the late Cheryl (Marchand) Shanahan, he attended Lowell schools and was a graduate of Lowell High School.
Jackie spent most of his career in construction as a project designer and sales representative.
He enjoyed cooking, sports, the history channel, and was an amazing artist, often drawing portraits of family. However, Jackie's greatest joy was when he was with his family and his daily phone calls with his granddaughter Mila.
Besides his father, Jackie is survived by a daughter Jessica L . Shanahan and her partner Michael Massa of Hudson, NH; two sons John P. Shanahan, III of Lowell and Kevin M. Shanahan and his partner Alexandra Nolet of Chelmsford; two grandchildren Mila and Aiden “AJ” Massa both of Hudson, NH; a sister Colleen E. Shanahan of Lowell; two brothers Timothy R. Shanahan and his partner Kathleen Harrison of North Andover and Shane P. Shanahan and his wife Stephanie Shanahan of Dracut; two nieces, Mykenzie Shanahan and Catherine Shanahan, whom he was Godfather to and a nephew Evan Shanahan; his aunts & uncles: Maureen McNiff, Eileen Haley, Shelagh and Richard McEvoy, Nancy Shanahan, Thomas and MaryBeth Shanahan, Patrick and Marybeth Shanahan, Robert and Kathy Marchand, Kenneth Marchand and many cousins whom he loved.
Jackie was the first grandchild of the late C. Marion Shanahan, nephew of the late James W. Haley, E. Christopher Shanahan and Joseph H. McNiff and uncle of the late Aidan Sheehy Shanahan.
Family and Friends may call on Thursday January 15, 2026, at the O’DONNELL FUNERAL HOME 276 PAWTUCKET ST. in LOWELL from 4 to 7 P.M. and are invited to his Funeral Mass on Friday morning January 16, 2026, at ST. PATRICK CHURCH in LOWELL at 11 o’clock. (Please Meet at Church). Burial to follow at St. Patrick Cemetery.
