Manoel Lopes
Beloved husband, father, brother, uncle and friend; Manoel Lopes, 77, of Lowell, Massachusetts, passed away peacefully at his home on Thursday January 28, 2021 surrounded by his loving family.
He was the loving husband for over 51 years of Osvanda (Zambom) Lopes, who survives him.
Born in Sao Paulo, Brazil, June 10, 1943, the son of the late Antonio F. and the late Ruth G. (Gimenez) Lopes, he received his education in Brazil and graduated from Liceu Marechal Deodoro College with a Degree in Accounting.
Manoel began his career in Brazil as a bookkeeper with Usiqimica do Brazil where he also met his wife Osvanda. After moving to the U.S., he worked at Grace Shoe Company in Lowell. In 1974, he started an almost 30 year career as a Materials Specialist at Frudenberg Nonwovens.
An avid soccer enthusiast, Manoel was a life member of the Sporte Clube Corinthians Paulista (Soccer Club) and loved watching soccer games either in person or on television whenever he could.
Manoel also enjoyed traveling, listening to music, back yard birdwatching, caring for his lawn, washing his car, taking photos and videos and collecting stein mugs and minted coins.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a son Thomas Lopes of Lowell; a daughter Patricia Sandoval and her husband Marco S. of Lowell; two sisters Maria Teresa Orlandi and her husband Orlando of Brazil and Eunice C. Veloso of Brazil; a sister -in-law Zaida Zanbom of Dracut and 48 loving nieces and nephews.
Manoel was also the brother of the late Paulo R.G. Lopes and his late wife Adalgiza S. Lopes and brother-in-law of the late Ozvaldo Zambom.
Due to gathering restrictions, all services will be held privately for the family. A Celebration of Manoels Life will be held at a later date when it is safe for family and friends to gather.
