Margaret R. "Peg" (Gagnon) Bean

Margaret R. “Peg” (Gagnon) Bean, 101, a former resident of Chelmsford and Lowell, died Sunday afternoon at Blaire House Assisted Living following a period of declining health. She was the wife of the late Robert Bean who died in 1974.

Born in Billerica, MA, on December 8, 1924, she was a daughter of the late Frank and Blanche (Hamelin) Gagnon and received her education in the Billerica school system.

Following High School, Peg worked at the Billerica Post Office for a short period then was a secretary in downtown Lowell at the Bon Marche department store.  Her career then took her to the Internal Revenue Service in Andover where she was a tax examiner and retired after twenty- three years of service.

Peg filled her spare time with ceramics creating Christmas trees, lamps and seasonal decorative pieces.  She also enjoyed knitting and crocheting.  Most of all Peg was an avid reader and word search wiz which she enjoyed well into her final days.

She was a member of the National Active and Retired Federal Employees Association.

Peg is survived by two daughters, Sharon and her husband Allen Krause of Shrewsbury, MA and Deborah and her husband Arthur Sutcliffe of Chelmsford, MA; one son, Robert Bean and his wife Suzan of Dunedin, FL; five grandchildren, Robert and his wife Alanna of Kensington, NH, Beth and her husband Charles of Gilmanton, NH, Chris Krause of Boston, Tom Krause of Northboro and Kathy Krause of Worcester; six great grandchildren; a sister, Gloria Fortin of Manchester, NH, and many nieces and nephews and a dear friend Cathy Ober of Tewksbury, MA.

She was the sister of the late Louis and Paul Gagnon and sister-in-law of the late Ruth Gagnon.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Funeral Mass Thursday morning at 11:00 o’clock at the IMMACULATE CONCEPTION CHURCH in LOWELL. (Please Meet at Church).
